What they need

Job Title: Gas Station Customer Service Associate (Afternoon Shift)

Position Type: Full-time or Part-time
Shift: Afternoon / Closing (2:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
Pay Rate: [$17.60/ hour]

Role Overview

We are seeking a reliable, customer-focused team member for our afternoon and closing shift (2:00 PM to 11:00 PM). In this role, you will be the face of our station during peak evening commute hours and the primary staff member responsible for closing procedures. You will process transactions quickly, assist motorists, maintain store cleanliness, and ensure our inventory remains stocked and organized.

Key Responsibilities & DutiesCustomer Service & Cash Handling

  • Greet every customer promptly and provide efficient, friendly service.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) cash register, scanning merchandise, authorizing fuel pumps, and processing cash, credit, debit, and mobile payments.
  • Sell lottery tickets, tobacco products, and age-restricted merchandise while strictly enforcing legal age-verification policies (valid photo ID checks).
  • Address customer inquiries and resolve minor complaints professionally; escalate unresolved issues to the store manager.

Shift Transition & Closing Operations

  • Arrive by 2:00 PM for handover from the morning team, verifying register starting cash and taking note of any pump or inventory issues.
  • Conduct end-of-shift register reconciliations at 11:00 PM, counting drawers, running shift reports, and securely depositing cash according to company policy.
  • Complete closing checklists, lock coolers, secure exterior displays, and perform final perimeter security checks.

Store Maintenance & Merchandising

  • Restock beverage coolers, snack shelves, and coffee/fountain stations throughout the shift to keep displays full and faced forward.
  • Keep the checkout counter, food/coffee preparation areas, and customer restrooms clean, sanitized, and well-stocked.
  • Empty indoor and outdoor trash bins and replace liners as needed.
  • Monitor forecourt cleanliness by sweeping debris near pumps and checking windshield washing fluid and paper towel dispensers.

Safety, Security & Compliance

  • Monitor pump consoles and forecourt activity to prevent drive-offs, unauthorized activity, or unsafe behavior around fuel dispensers.
  • Follow safety protocols for hazardous materials, including minor fuel spill containment procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of store surroundings at night, following all lone-worker or closing security guidelines.

Performance Expectations

  • Punctuality & Reliability: Arrive on time for the 2:00 PM handover and remain on duty through the scheduled 11:00 PM close.
  • Accuracy: Maintain tight cash drawer control with minimal overages or shortages, and achieve 100% compliance on ID checks for age-restricted sales.
  • Initiative: Balance customer service with active maintenance during slower evening hours (e.g., deep cleaning, restocking, cooler rotation).
  • Composure: Remain calm, patient, and de-escalating during evening rush periods or when handling difficult customer situations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 or 21 years old (depending on local regulations for handling tobacco, alcohol, and lottery sales).
  • Experience: Prior experience in retail, cashiering, or customer service preferred, but willing to train candidates with a strong work ethic.
  • Math Skills: Ability to handle basic arithmetic, make correct change quickly, and balance cash drawers.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand on your feet for extended periods (6–8 hours), bend, reach, and lift up to 30–50 lbs (e.g., boxes of stock, milk crates, or soda syrup boxes).
  • Communication: Clear verbal communication skills in English; bilingual ability is a plus.

Pay: $17.60 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week

Benefits:

  • On-site parking

Licence/Certification:

  • Smart Serve (preferred)
