About the role

AKN CARGO LOGISTIC INC. is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Customs Declarant to join our Import/Export & Customs team. This is a full-time position based in Paco, Manila City, Metro Manila. As a Customs Declarant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and compliant movement of goods across international borders. You will be responsible for preparing and submitting accurate customs documentation, managing regulatory requirements, and liaising with customs authorities on behalf of our clients. This position is vital to maintaining our reputation for reliability and regulatory compliance within the logistics and freight forwarding industry.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and file customs declarations, entry forms, and related documentation in compliance with Philippine customs regulations and international trade requirements
• Review shipping documents, invoices, bills of lading, and packing lists to ensure accuracy and completeness before customs submission
• Calculate and declare duties, taxes, and other charges applicable to imported and exported goods
• Communicate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, importers, exporters, and government agencies to clarify documentation and resolve customs clearance issues
• Monitor and track shipments through the customs clearance process, ensuring timely release of goods
• Maintain detailed records of all customs transactions, declarations, and communications for audit and compliance purposes
• Stay informed of changes in customs regulations, tariff classifications, and trade policies affecting import/export operations
• Provide guidance to clients on customs procedures, documentation requirements, and compliance obligations
• Identify and flag potential compliance risks or discrepancies in shipment documentation
• Liaise with customs authorities to resolve inspections, penalties, or other regulatory matters

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Customs Declarant or in a similar customs clearance role, preferably within the import/export or freight forwarding industry
• Strong knowledge of Philippine customs regulations, tariff classifications, and international trade requirements
• Proficiency in customs declaration software and systems, with the ability to quickly learn new platforms
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to process complex documentation accurately
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the capacity to handle multiple shipments simultaneously
• Effective communication skills in English and Filipino, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders
• Sound understanding of HS codes, INCOTERMS, and trade compliance procedures
• Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving clearance issues
• Reliability and integrity in handling confidential client information and regulatory documentation
• Relevant certifications or qualifications in customs procedures or international trade (preferred but not essential)
