What they need

XMotive Dance Studio is hiring a part-time Dance Instructor / Dance Team Coach to lead practices for our youth and teen dance team program.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys dancing, works well with young people, and can teach routines in a fun, organized, and encouraging way. Experience in hip-hop, majorette, or HBCU-style dance is preferred.

Previous employment as a choreographer is not required. Dance team members, former dancers, assistant coaches, and instructors who can confidently teach and lead a group are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead weekly dance practices. Create and teach age-appropriate choreography. Teach dance basics, counts, timing, formations, and performance skills. Help beginners learn routines and build confidence. Keep dancers engaged while maintaining a positive, structured environment. Track attendance and communicate updates to studio leadership. Help prepare the team for future performances. Lead rehearsals independently.

Qualifications

  • Experience performing, teaching, or creating dance routines. Ability to demonstrate movements and explain them clearly. Patience and confidence working with children and teens. Dependable attendance and consistent Saturday availability. Strong communication and time management. Ability to travel reliably to our Hampton studio.

Experience teaching children or serving as a dance team captain is a plus. A formal dance degree is not required.

Schedule and Pay

This role begins with one 90-minute rehearsal each Saturday, paid at $30 per hour.

Planning expectations and any additional paid hours will be discussed during the interview. Additional teaching opportunities may become available as the program grows.

Pay: From $30.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule

Application Question(s):

  • Can you consistently lead Saturday practices from 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. in Hampton? Please list any scheduling conflicts for the next three months and your earliest start date.
  • What experience do you have in hip-hop, majorette, or HBCU-style dance? Describe any experience teaching children, creating routines, or leading a dance team.
  • You would be responsible for planning and leading practice independently. How would you organize a 90-minute practice for beginner dancers ages 7–12?
  • When would you be able to start if offered?
