What they need

Job Summary

The DAS Maintenance Technician is responsible for preventive maintenance, routine inspections, housekeeping, and first-level troubleshooting of Distributed Antenna System (DAS) infrastructure and associated telecommunications rooms. The position supports reliable system operation by maintaining clean, organized, secure, and environmentally controlled equipment spaces; inspecting DAS and supporting power, cabling, and cooling infrastructure; documenting maintenance activities; and promptly escalating deficiencies. The technician works independently and collaboratively with Engineering, Operations, and site personnel while following approved procedures and safety requirements.

Duties

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and visual inspections of DAS equipment, telecommunications rooms, racks, cabinets, antennas, cabling, and associated support infrastructure in accordance with site requirements.
  • Maintain telecommunications rooms in clean, orderly, low-dust, equipment-safe condition to reduce contamination, overheating, and service interruptions.
  • Implement dirt and dust mitigation practices, including use of approved HEPA-filtered vacuums, microfiber materials, entryway controls, and careful removal of accumulated debris; avoid disturbing active equipment.
  • Sweep or HEPA-vacuum floors as appropriate and damp-mop approved floor surfaces using manufacturer- and site-approved methods; prevent liquids, overspray, and cleaning residues from contacting energized equipment, cables, or outlets.
  • Conduct and document quarterly deep cleaning of telecommunications rooms, including accessible floors, approved external rack and cabinet surfaces, cable pathways, and other safe-to-access areas; coordinate any work requiring equipment access or shutdown.
  • Keep ventilation openings, rack airflow paths, cooling returns, equipment clearances, doorways, and emergency access routes free of dust, stored materials, and obstructions.
  • Inspect room temperature, humidity, ventilation, cooling performance, signs of water intrusion, condensation, leaks, corrosion, pests, and other environmental risks; record findings and promptly report out-of-range conditions.
  • Inspect rack integrity, equipment mounting, labeling, cable dressing, strain relief, grounding and bonding connections, and visible power distribution for damage, looseness, or unsafe conditions; escalate repairs beyond authorized scope.
  • Check DAS equipment status indicators, alarms, power supplies, battery-backup/UPS indicators where applicable, and monitoring-system alerts; document abnormalities and coordinate troubleshooting with authorized personnel
  • Assist with approved first-level troubleshooting of RF, fiber-optic, coaxial, and low-voltage infrastructure; use appropriate test instruments only when trained and authorized.
  • Maintain accurate preventive-maintenance checklists, cleaning schedules, inspection logs, environmental readings, service tickets, photographs, and work-completion records.
  • Identify, log, prioritize, and report deficiencies requiring attention, including equipment alarms, excessive dust, damaged cables, cooling issues, water intrusion, security concerns, and safety hazards; track open items through resolution or documented handoff.
  • Immediately escalate critical conditions that could threaten personnel safety, equipment integrity, or service availability through established notification and incident-response procedures.
  • Maintain room access controls and site security; verify doors are secured after work, protect keys and credentials, and report unauthorized access or tampering.
  • Coordinate maintenance windows and site access with Engineering, Operations, customers, vendors, and facility personnel; minimize disruption to live telecommunications services.
  • Follow approved change-control, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, ladder safety, PPE, and site-specific procedures; do not open energized panels or disturb live circuits without appropriate authorization and qualifications.
  • Use only approved, electronics-safe cleaning supplies and methods; do not introduce excessive moisture, compressed-air dust dispersal, or chemicals that may damage telecommunications equipment.
  • Maintain tools, cleaning equipment, consumables, and spare-material inventories; properly dispose of waste and promptly communicate replenishment needs.
  • Provide clear, timely written and verbal status updates and professional communication with supervisors, team members, customers, and facility representatives.
  • Attend work as scheduled; follow company policies, procedures, and directives; manage assigned priorities and complete other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication, documentation, time-management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Working knowledge of DAS components, RF distribution, fiber/coaxial cabling, low-voltage power, and basic equipment alarms.

  • Knowledge of telecommunications-room housekeeping, contamination control, airflow requirements, and safe cleaning practices around sensitive electronics.

  • Ability to complete preventive-maintenance checklists, track corrective actions, take clear site photographs, and use work-order and spreadsheet software.

  • Ability to recognize and promptly escalate environmental, electrical, physical-security, and service-impacting hazards.

  • Basic familiarity with approved test equipment and safe use of hand tools; follow site-specific procedures and required training.

  • Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with Engineering, Operations, and facility personnel.

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record when driving is required for the position.

· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required.
