Senior Data Analyst / Senior Metadata Officer

Location: ACT, QLD, VIC, SA, TAS

Contract: 12 months + potential extensions up to 24 months

Working Arrangements: Hybrid (initial 6 weeks onsite)

Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline

Bridge IT Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Data Analyst / Senior Metadata Officer to support a large Federal Government department in strengthening its data management and metadata capabilities. This role will focus on leading metadata development activities, improving the quality and consistency of business metadata, and supporting data governance initiatives across complex datasets and AI-related projects.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical knowledge of metadata standards, excellent stakeholder engagement skills and demonstrated experience leading metadata development and quality assurance activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate metadata development activities across assigned datasets and data assets.
• Develop, review and maintain metadata in accordance with ISO/IEC 11179 and relevant data governance standards.
• Analyse existing metadata records, data dictionaries, data models, lineage information and technical documentation.
• Identify and resolve metadata gaps, duplication, inconsistencies and quality issues.
• Develop clear and consistent business definitions, data descriptions and supporting documentation.
• Engage with business stakeholders, data stewards, data engineers, analysts and technical teams to validate metadata.
• Oversee metadata quality assurance, registration and ongoing stewardship activities.
• Supervise, mentor and provide guidance to metadata developers.
• Monitor project progress, risks, deliverables and reporting requirements.
• Support continuous improvement of metadata management processes and governance practices.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated expertise implementing ISO/IEC 11179 metadata registry standards .
• Knowledge of relevant metadata standards, including ONDC metadata attributes, National Archives of Australia requirements and DCAT, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
• Proven experience leading metadata development, metadata quality assurance or related data management activities.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex technical and business documentation.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and facilitation skills.
• Experience coordinating workstreams, managing competing priorities and delivering quality outcomes.
• Ability to work independently while providing leadership and guidance to team members.

Highly Desirable

• Experience in data governance, data management or enterprise metadata management.
• Understanding of Enterprise Data Warehouse environments, data dictionaries, data lineage and data modelling.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and project coordination skills.
• Experience supervising, mentoring or coaching staff.
• Exposure to AI-related data initiatives or complex government data environments.
• Previous experience working within Federal Government.
