The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Data Analytics Engineer with strong expertise in Looker Core to support a key client undertaking a migration from Power BI to Looker.
This is an opportunity to play an important role in developing a reliable, well-structured analytics environment, helping transform data into meaningful, actionable insights for the business. You will work across data modelling, analytics development and stakeholder collaboration, ensuring that data is organised effectively and that business users can access consistent, dependable information to support decision-making.
The successful candidate will bring hands-on experience with Looker, LookML, SQL and dbt, alongside the ability to understand business requirements and translate them into practical analytics solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the migration from Power BI to Looker, helping establish and develop the new analytics environment.
- Design, structure and maintain data models to ensure information is organised consistently and can be used effectively across the business.
- Develop and maintain LookML models within Looker Core to define data relationships, dimensions, measures and business logic.
- Use SQL to query, analyse and structure data, supporting the development of reliable reporting and analytics solutions.
- Work with dbt to support data transformation, modelling and the preparation of data for analytical use.
- Build and maintain dependable analytics tools that allow business users to explore data and access meaningful insights.
- Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications and analytics models.
- Collaborate with technical teams and business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and ensure analytics solutions meet operational requirements.
- Help improve the consistency, usability and reliability of data used for reporting and decision-making.
- Support the ongoing development and maintenance of the Looker environment as the migration progresses.
Required Skills and Experience
- Looker Core: Strong hands-on experience developing analytics solutions using Looker Core. Experience with Looker Studio alone will not be sufficient.
- LookML: Practical experience creating and maintaining LookML models to structure data and define business logic within Looker.
- SQL: Strong SQL skills, with experience querying, analysing and structuring data for analytics and reporting purposes.
- dbt: Hands-on experience using dbt for data transformation and modelling.
- Data modelling: Experience structuring data to support reliable, consistent and accessible analytics.
- Analytics development: Ability to build and maintain analytics tools that turn data into actionable business insights.
- Stakeholder collaboration: Comfortable working with both technical teams and business stakeholders, translating business needs into effective data and analytics solutions.
- Languages: Professional proficiency in both French and Italian is essential.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on Data Analytics Engineer who combines strong technical expertise in Looker, LookML, SQL and dbt with an understanding of how data supports business decision-making.
You'll be comfortable working across technical and business teams, structuring complex information into usable analytics solutions, and contributing to a significant BI platform migration.
Given the freelance nature of the engagement and the requirement to start ASAP, candidates should be available to commit full-time for a minimum of 12 months and able to work in a hybrid arrangement in Turin, with two days per week remote.
