What they need
Some people can't leave a spreadsheet alone until every row checks out. If that's you, keep reading.
BraveGen builds the software that large organisations across New Zealand and Australia use to measure their carbon emissions, manage their energy use and optimise their buildings. Our customers are the sustainability and property teams at some of Australasia's best-known companies. Behind every report they see, there's a data upload that had to be right first.
We're hiring a Data & Client Support Analyst to own that side of the desk. Most of your week is structured data work – uploads, validation, quality checks, the queue that keeps the platform accurate. You'll also be trained up as back-up cover for our Client Support Analyst, so when they're away or the ticket queue is under pressure, you can step in and keep things moving.
The job, honestly
Most days, you're working through scheduled and ad hoc data uploads – reviewing what's come in, checking it against what it should look like, catching the row that's wrong before it becomes someone else's problem downstream. Accuracy here isn't a nice-to-have – it's the job. A missed error doesn't stay small; it turns into a client's report showing the wrong numbers weeks later.
The other half of the skill is working out why something's gone wrong. An upload fails, or it goes through but the data on-screen doesn't look right – and there's rarely an obvious error message telling you what to fix. You need to be the kind of person who digs into the file, checks the formatting against what's expected, traces a number back through the system, and doesn't stop until you've found the actual cause, not just a workaround.
The rest of the role is back-up. When the Client Support Analyst needs cover, you'll pick up tickets – triaging, troubleshooting, following cases through rather than parking them.
If you get genuine satisfaction from a data set with zero errors in it, and you're the type who wants to know why something broke rather than just re-running it and hoping, you'll do well here.
What you'll be doing
- Managing structured data upload queues – scheduled and ad hoc
- Reviewing, validating and uploading client data accurately and on time
- Troubleshooting failed uploads and data discrepancies – working out root cause, not just re-submitting
- Investigating why data isn't displaying correctly once it's in the system
- Data administration and quality checking using Excel and internal tools
- Flagging discrepancies proactively, before they surface somewhere else
- Acting as back-up for the Client Support Analyst – triaging and resolving tickets, and keeping cases moving during absences or peak periods
- Supporting customer onboarding and software configuration when covering
- Producing reports for internal and external audiences
- Writing and maintaining process documentation and knowledge base articles
What we're looking for
We care more about how carefully and how methodically you work than how long your CV is.
- Non-negotiable: accuracy. This role isn't a good fit if you're comfortable with "close enough."
- Strong troubleshooting instincts – when an upload fails or numbers don't add up, you want to know why, and you can work through a problem systematically rather than guessing
- Strong Excel skills – XLOOKUP, pivot tables, data validation, conditional formatting – and genuine comfort with large data sets
- A track record of accurate, repetitive work done properly, not just done fast
- Some customer service exposure – it doesn't need to be from a support desk, but you should be able to handle a ticket or a call without needing to be walked through it
- A quick learner who picks up new systems with minimal handholding
- The right to work in New Zealand permanently
Hours and flexibility
Standard business hours, Monday to Friday, hybrid – with the flexibility to work from home when that helps you do your best work.
Where this leads
Get good at this and you've got two directions open: deeper into data and reporting, or across into full-time client support. We'd rather hire someone who wants to grow into one of those than someone looking to sit still.
How to apply
Send us your CV and a short cover letter telling us two things: a time you tracked down why something wasn't working – a broken upload, a formula returning the wrong answer, a report that didn't match expectations – and how you found the cause; and a spreadsheet or data process you've cleaned up or built, what was wrong with it and what you did.
We read them.
Other offers great for you!
