Role: Data and Reporting Business Analyst

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid – 2/3 Days Per Week On-Site)

Salary: £47,000 - £56,500

Contract: Fixed Term until December 2027

Network IT are working with a leading research-intensive organisation to recruit a Technical Business Analyst to support a major enterprise data and reporting transformation programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in replacing legacy reporting platforms with a modern Power BI reporting capability , helping to deliver a strategic data and analytics roadmap that will enable better decision-making across the organisation.

Role Overview

As a Technical Business Analyst , you will operate as the critical link between business stakeholders, data teams, and technical delivery functions throughout a major reporting transformation programme.

A key focus of this role will be supporting the migration from legacy reporting solutions to Power BI , helping to define reporting requirements, improve business processes, and ensure data solutions align with organisational objectives. You will work closely with Project Managers, Data Engineers, Data Analysts, and senior stakeholders to deliver scalable reporting solutions built on modern data platforms.

This role requires strong technical business analysis expertise across enterprise reporting, business intelligence, data warehousing, and analytics. Experience working with Kimball-style dimensional modelling methodologies and semantic models will be highly valued, helping to ensure reporting solutions are scalable, governed, and capable of delivering consistent business insight.

You will be comfortable translating complex business requirements into clear technical specifications whilst ensuring stakeholders remain engaged throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead requirements gathering activities for reporting, analytics, and data transformation initiatives
• Facilitate workshops and stakeholder sessions to capture both functional and non-functional requirements
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications for reporting, analytics, and data solutions
• Assess existing reporting solutions and determine whether requirements should be retired, consolidated, redesigned, or migrated to Power BI
• Work closely with Data Engineers and Analysts to ensure business requirements are accurately understood and delivered
• Support the design and validation of semantic models, reporting structures, and analytics requirements
• Develop process maps, data models, business workflows, and system documentation
• Support the delivery of enterprise reporting standards and governance frameworks
• Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), acceptance criteria, and business validation activities
• Act as the liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders throughout project delivery
• Support reporting adoption, training, and community engagement activities

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience as a Systems Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, Data Business Analyst, or similar role
• Strong business analysis, requirements gathering, and process mapping experience
• Experience delivering enterprise reporting, analytics, business intelligence, or data warehouse projects
• Experience working with Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Cognos, or similar BI platforms
• Strong understanding of data modelling concepts , including facts, dimensions, star schemas, semantic models, and reporting architectures
• Experience working with Kimball-style dimensional modelling methodologies
• Experience designing, supporting, or validating semantic data models for reporting and analytics
• Ability to interrogate and validate data using SQL or similar technologies
• Experience translating business requirements into technical specifications
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong understanding of data governance, GDPR, data quality, and compliance principles
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach to delivery
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Highly Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience supporting migrations of legacy reporting solutions to new solutions.
• Experience developing or supporting Power BI semantic models
• Experience with Kimball data warehousing methodologies and enterprise reporting frameworks
• Experience with Snowflake, dbt, Azure, or cloud-based analytics platforms
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments (Scrum or Kanban)
• Previous experience within Higher Education
• Understanding of enterprise reporting governance and reporting transformation programmes
