Data Architect – Azure Data Platform

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Contract: B2B Contract

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – minimum 2 days onsite per week

Duration: Full-time assignment

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Data Architect to support the development of a modern Azure data platform for a public-sector organisation in Brussels.

You will help shape the organisation’s data architecture, contribute to an urban digital twin project focused on urban heat islands , and provide hands-on support for the implementation of CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.

Your Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design and implementation of the Azure data architecture .
• Design and structure end-to-end data solutions, from ingestion to reporting and advanced analytics.
• Help develop a digital twin solution using IoT sensor data, geospatial information, BIM data, and other urban data sources .
• Support the setup and industrialisation of CI/CD pipelines for the Azure data platform.
• Define and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or an equivalent tool.
• Contribute to data governance, data quality, cataloging, lineage, and security.
• Help integrate AI/ML capabilities into the data platform, including MLOps and model deployment.
• Support the evolution of data models and technical foundations during complex migrations.
• Work closely with internal teams, external partners, and business stakeholders.
• Provide architecture guidance, documentation, technical reviews, and knowledge transfer.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience as a Data Architect in enterprise or cloud data environments.
• Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) and/or Enterprise Data Management (EDM) architecture.
• Knowledge of data exchange through ESB, APIs, or similar integration solutions .
• Strong experience with Azure DevOps and Infrastructure as Code , preferably Terraform.
• Experience designing end-to-end data architectures for:
• Batch and incremental ingestion
• Real-time data processing
• IoT sensor streams
• Data analytics and reporting
• Strong knowledge of the Azure Data Platform , including:
• Azure Data Lake
• Azure Data Factory
• Azure Synapse Analytics
• Azure Databricks
• Experience with Lakehouse, Medallion, Data Vault, or dimensional data models .
• Experience with Microsoft Purview or a similar data governance platform.
• Knowledge of Power BI and semantic models.
• Experience with cloud data security, including RBAC, private endpoints, VNet integration, Key Vault, and Azure policies .
• Experience with Digital Twins, geospatial data, IoT, or Smart City projects is highly desirable.
• Experience with AI/ML architecture, MLOps, and production model deployment .
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and business teams.
• Fluent in English .
