Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Data Architect / Principal Data Engineer with 12+ years of overall IT experience and strong hands-on experience in Data Architecture, Databricks and Cloud Data Platforms.

The ideal candidate should be an architecture-focused technology leader, capable of independently understanding complex business and data problems, designing scalable end-to-end data platforms, making technology decisions and guiding engineering teams through implementation and production.

This is not a documentation-only architecture role. The candidate will be expected to remain technically involved from business requirement architecture implementation production.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and own end-to-end enterprise data platform architectures using Databricks and cloud technologies.
• Understand complex business requirements and translate them into scalable and maintainable data architecture solutions.
• Define architecture for data ingestion, processing, storage, transformation, serving and analytics.
• Design cloud-based Data Lake / Lakehouse / Data Warehouse solutions using Databricks on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Apply Medallion Architecture principles using Bronze, Silver and Gold layers and clearly define the purpose and responsibilities of each layer.
• Evaluate and select appropriate technologies based on scalability, performance, cost, security, maintainability and business requirements.
• Lead large-scale data migration, modernization and conversion initiatives, including assessment, transformation, validation and production cutover.
• Design migration strategies for complex SQL, stored procedures and database workloads.
• Guide Data Engineers and development teams during architecture implementation and resolve technical challenges.
• Participate in Architecture Review Boards, technical design reviews and architecture governance processes.
• Establish standards for data modelling, data quality, security, governance and data management.
• Design solutions involving relational and NoSQL databases, data lakes, lakehouses and enterprise data warehouses.
• Review existing architectures and identify opportunities for modernization, optimization and performance improvement.
• Work closely with business stakeholders, engineering teams and technology leaders to communicate architecture decisions and trade-offs.
• Provide technical leadership throughout implementation, deployment and production stabilization.
• Ensure solutions meet enterprise requirements for security, governance, scalability, reliability and data quality.
• Create architecture diagrams, solution designs, technical specifications and implementation guidelines.
• Mentor and provide technical direction to Data Engineering teams.

Mandatory Skills

• 12+ years of overall IT experience.
• Minimum 4+ years of experience in Data Architecture / Principal Data Engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks.
• Strong experience designing cloud data platforms on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Strong understanding of Data Lake / Lakehouse / Data Warehouse architecture.
• Strong understanding of Medallion Architecture – Bronze, Silver and Gold.
• Strong Data Modelling / Data Architecture experience.
• Experience with large-scale data migration / modernization / conversion projects.
• Strong SQL and experience with complex SQL procedures / stored procedures.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of data governance, security and data quality.
• Experience providing technical guidance to Data Engineering teams.
• Strong architecture problem-solving and technology decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
