What they need

Join a values-led organisation where your accuracy, curiosity and love of good data truly make a difference. If you're a detail-driven data professional who enjoys turning numbers into clear, usable insight, this is an opportunity to build your technical capability while contributing to a team striving for excellence.

Why Join Us

Rural Affinity is a place where people are encouraged to learn, develop and bring forward ideas. Our Data Team plays a central role in how we understand our business — and as we continue to evolve, we invest deeply in our people through technical development, exposure to a broad range of reporting and data challenges, and opportunities to contribute to broader process improvements.

You'll be supported by leaders who value initiative, empower thoughtful decision-making and create space for you to refine your technical skills while making a real impact.

The Opportunity

As a Data Assistant, you will play an integral role in delivering reporting that is accurate, reliable and fit for purpose across Rural Affinity. You'll work closely with the Data Lead and stakeholders across the business to fulfil day-to-day data and reporting needs, contributing to Rural Affinity's vision of being the Obvious Choice for our partners.

This role offers meaningful scope to develop your technical capability, build your understanding of our data, systems and the broader insurance industry, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. Strong attention to detail, clear communication and a logical approach to problem solving will be central to your success.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Acting as the first point of contact for incoming data and reporting requests, triaging and prioritising the queue, resolving routine requests independently and escalating complex analysis to the Data Team.
  • Assisting the Data Team to develop and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that meet the needs of all business units.
  • Delivering recurring and ad hoc reporting to agreed deadlines, applying appropriate validation and reconciliation checks to ensure accuracy.
  • Supporting the maintenance of robust data pipelines and high data quality, investigating data issues and escalating them through to resolution.
  • Maintaining clear documentation of report logic, data definitions and business rules to ensure reporting remains consistent and repeatable.
  • Building a sound understanding of Rural Affinity's data sources, systems, product offerings and insurance fundamentals.
  • Building technical capability in SQL and Python or R, with support and direction from the Data Team.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance reporting processes, data quality and the stakeholder experience.

What You Bring

  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Experience developing or maintaining reports using Power BI, Tableau or similar reporting and visualisation tools.
  • Familiarity with a CRM or similar business system.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to work with stakeholders across all business units.
  • Genuine interest in insurance and financial services.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and reporting deadlines.
  • A logical approach to problem solving and the ability to identify when an issue should be escalated.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new systems, tools and technical skills.

Working knowledge of SQL, Python or R, and previous experience within insurance, broking or financial services, are highly regarded.

Who You Are

You are logical, curious and motivated to deliver reporting that stakeholders can trust and rely on. You take pride in accurate, well-documented work and enjoy contributing to a positive, empowered team culture. You welcome feedback, thrive on continuous learning and bring initiative and a proactive mindset to your work.

We invest in our people just as much as we ask them to invest in us, including:

  • Paid parental leave to support you through life's big moments
  • Support toward industry qualifications as you build your technical expertise
  • Ergonomic workstations designed with your wellbeing in mind
  • A genuinely dog-friendly office (yes, four-legged colleagues welcome)

If you're looking for a role where you can grow your technical capability while contributing to the success of a dynamic and values-based organisation, we'd love to hear from you.
