About Albany Beck

Albany Beck is a consultancy specialising in delivering high-quality change, technology, data and regulatory solutions across financial services. We partner with leading banks, asset managers, insurers and other financial institutions to provide experienced consultants who can support complex business and transformation programmes.

Client Deployment Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Data Business Analyst to work with us here at Albany Beck, supporting one of our major banking clients within its UK Commercial Banking Data Technology function.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of large-scale data and technology transformation programmes, working closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, architects and software delivery teams. This role sits at the intersection of business and technology and requires someone who is comfortable working within complex enterprise data environments. This is not a purely functional Business Analyst position.

We are seeking a technically capable Data Business Analyst with strong experience across software delivery, data platforms, cloud technologies and data architecture. The successful candidate will be able to bridge the gap between business requirements and technical implementation, while supporting the delivery of modern data solutions across a large-scale banking environment. Based in Kraków, Poland, this is a hybrid role requiring approximately 6 days per month in the office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, architects and technology teams to gather, analyse and document business and technical requirements.
  • Support the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle, from discovery and proof of concept (POC) through development, testing and implementation.
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications, user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Support the design and delivery of cloud-based data solutions aligned to business objectives and technical architecture.
  • Use SQL to analyse, validate and interrogate data to support requirements gathering, data mapping and testing activities.
  • Work closely with teams operating across enterprise data technologies, including Hadoop and Hive.
  • Develop an understanding of existing data architectures, data flows, integration points and platform dependencies.
  • Support large-scale data and technology transformation programmes, managing requirements, dependencies and stakeholder expectations.
  • Participate in Agile delivery ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews and retrospectives.
  • Act as the key communication bridge between business and technology teams, ensuring requirements are clearly understood throughout delivery.
  • Identify, manage and resolve requirements gaps, delivery risks and technical dependencies.
  • Collaborate with geographically distributed teams to support successful programme delivery.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience working as a Technical Business Analyst or Data Business Analyst within Banking or Financial Services.
  • Proven experience supporting software development and technology delivery programmes, including Proofs of Concept (POCs) and large-scale implementations.
  • Strong SQL experience with the ability to query, analyse and validate data.
  • Good understanding of cloud-based data solutions and modern enterprise data platforms.
  • Experience working with Hadoop and Hive within data-driven environments.
  • Strong understanding of data concepts and architecture, including data flows, data modelling, integration and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Experience working on large-scale data, technology or transformation programmes.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including user story development, backlog management and working within Scrum teams.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts and business requirements into clear, actionable deliverables.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and deliver effectively within a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within a major UK Commercial or Corporate Banking environment.
  • Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery or similar cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data lineage and data quality frameworks.
  • Experience supporting cloud migration, data modernisation or enterprise data platform initiatives.
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence and Agile delivery toolsets.
  • Experience collaborating with globally distributed engineering and technology teams.
