What they need
As a Data Center Customer Deployment Engineer, you will oversee tenant fit-outs and customer installations throughout a designated group of colocation facilities.
Your workload will be diverse, ranging from managing straightforward single-cabinet setups to orchestrating intricate, multi-site deployments simultaneously.
This position centers on white space engineering with a heavy emphasis on electrical power. You will be responsible for the strategic planning, grooming, stripping, weeding, balancing, and redistribution of power within live data center environments.
Beyond power, you will assist with racks, cabinets, cages, containment, equipment relocations, and basic fiber tasks. While a foundational grasp of cooling, airflow, and mechanical systems is expected, your core expertise must lie in electrical power distribution.
Primary Duties
- Oversee the full lifecycle of customer deployments, from individual cabinet installs to large-scale, multi-site rollouts.
- Transform client specifications into actionable deployment blueprints for white space environments.
- Facilitate tenant fit-outs, including the setup of cages, racks, cabinets, containment, and power connectivity.
- Optimize facility capacity by grooming, stripping, weeding, and balancing power to meet specific equipment demands.
- Ensure reliable power delivery by planning and coordinating A and B side redundancy.
- Analyze electrical loads, breaker assignments, circuit capacity, and rack-level power needs.
- Manage the installation and coordination of RPPs, PDUs, busways, branch circuits, and cabinet power connections.
- Improve power utilization by identifying available capacity and determining optimal redistribution strategies.
- Assist in the execution of equipment additions, moves, and changes within operational data halls.
- Create and evaluate floor layouts, rack elevations, cabinet placements, and cage designs.
- Manage the installation and adjustment of cold and hot aisle containment systems.
- Provide support for cross-connects, pathways, cabling, and light fiber requirements.
- Foster collaboration between vendors, construction teams, facility operations, and internal engineering departments.
- Maintain project schedules and documentation while balancing multiple deployments across various sites to ensure client satisfaction.
- Guarantee that all installations adhere to customer specifications and facility redundancy standards.
- Facilitate the project turnover process, including testing and final customer sign-off.
Essential Qualifications
- Proven background in mission-critical, colocation, white space, or data center infrastructure.
- Deep technical proficiency in electrical power distribution within data hall environments.
- Hands-on experience with the processes of weeding, stripping, grooming, and balancing power.
- Comprehensive knowledge of load management, electrical capacity, redundancy, breakers, circuits, and rack power.
- Demonstrated success in supporting deployment projects or customer tenant fit-outs.
- Capability to handle diverse project scopes, from single-cabinet tasks to complex, multi-site initiatives.
- Practical familiarity with A and B side power configurations, branch circuits, busways, RPPs, and PDUs.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, rack elevations, floor plans, and electrical one-line diagrams.
- Strong communication skills to effectively document projects and coordinate with customers.
- Commitment to maintaining safety and operational integrity within sensitive, active data center spaces.
- Willingness to travel as needed, typically around one week per month, to support regional requirements.
Desired Skills
- Foundational mechanical knowledge regarding equipment heat loads, airflow, and cooling.
- Experience working with hot and cold aisle containment solutions.
- Familiarity with fiber pathways, structured cabling, and cross-connect standards.
- Proficiency in design software such as Revit or AutoCAD.
- Ability to multitask by coordinating deployments across several data center locations at once.
- Understanding of deployment turnover, quality assurance, and commissioning workflows.
- Relevant certifications such as CDCP, RCDD, ATD, DCDC, PE, or EIT are considered a plus.
