Position Overview We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Operations Manager focused on MEP systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mission-critical facilities. The role leads mechanical, HVAC, piping, plumbing and sheet-metal maintenance and projects across one or more data centers, driving uptime, continuous improvement, budget control and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate combines data center experience with strong project and vendor management skills and a proven record of operating MEP systems in mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities

- Drive operational readiness and risk mitigation activities including capacity planning, redundancy assessments, failure mode analysis and disaster recovery planning.
- Provide technical leadership and on-site troubleshooting for complex MEP issues, coordinating root cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Define and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for MEP performance, reliability and costs; present operational updates to senior leadership and recommend improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred; combination of relevant experience and technical certifications may be accepted.
- 7+ years of experience managing MEP operations in data centers or other mission-critical facilities, with hands-on mechanical and HVAC expertise.
- Proven project management experience delivering MEP projects on schedule and within budget; PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, boilers, pumps, piping, plumbing systems, sheet metal fabrication and field construction practices.
- Experience with mission-critical reliability principles, redundancy architectures, commissioning procedures and preventive/predictive maintenance strategies.
- Demonstrated financial acumen including budgeting, cost control, vendor contract management and capital planning.
- Excellent leadership and people-management skills with experience building high-performing technical teams and driving a safety-first culture.
- Familiarity with industry standards and codes (NFPA, ASHRAE, local building codes) and experience supporting audits and regulatory compliance.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with internal stakeholders, external contractors and executive leadership; ability to respond to incidents and be available for on-call support.
