Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Data Design Developer with strong expertise in Microsoft Azure, SQL/NoSQL databases, data architecture, and application integration to support mission-critical applications for a major public transportation agency.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing scalable data models, developing and optimizing database structures, integrating enterprise applications, and building reliable cloud-based data solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies.

This position requires a professional who can work with existing systems, recommend improvements, develop new data architectures, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Architecture & Database Design: Design, develop, and maintain scalable relational (SQL) and NoSQL database architectures, including data models, schemas, and document-based structures.
• Azure Data Platform Development: Build, manage, and optimize data solutions using Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Blob Storage.
• Application Development: Develop and support cloud-based applications using .NET Core or Node.js, including APIs and backend data integrations.
• Data Integration & Pipelines: Design and implement data ingestion, transformation, mapping, and integration processes across enterprise applications and third-party systems.
• Data Modeling & Optimization: Improve existing database structures and design new data models based on business requirements, performance, and scalability needs.
• API & Enterprise Integration: Develop cross-platform API models and integrate systems such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), CRM platforms, and downstream data feeds.
• Analytics & Reporting: Design data structures supporting business intelligence, operational dashboards, reporting, analytics, and search capabilities.
• Data Quality & Governance: Implement data validation, governance standards, audit logging, archiving, and data security best practices.
• Production Support: Enhance, troubleshoot, and maintain highly available, mission-critical applications.
• Agile Collaboration: Work closely with developers, business analysts, architects, and stakeholders to deliver reliable solutions.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• An equivalent combination of education, professional experience, and relevant certifications may also be considered.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills The following qualifications are highly desirable but are not mandatory:

• GTFS / Transit Data Modeling: 5+ years of experience with General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS), enhanced GTFS, and GTFS-Realtime (GTFS-RT), including transit stops, routes, and network data structures.
• Third-Party Integrations: 8+ years of experience integrating, configuring, or exchanging data with external systems.
• PeopleSoft Cloud: 6+ years of experience supporting, implementing, or managing cloud-based PeopleSoft environments.
• PeopleSoft Certification: Preferred.
• Advanced Education: Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience supporting large-scale public-sector or transit-related enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform, Azure-based automation, and secure enterprise application development.

Mandatory Candidate Requirements

• Must have 8+ years of overall relevant IT experience.
• Must demonstrate strong hands-on expertise in Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, SQL/NoSQL database design, data modeling, and cloud architecture.
• Must have experience with .NET Core or Node.js, API development, and enterprise data integration.
• Must be local to Alexandria, VA, or the surrounding DMV area.
• Must be willing to work onsite 2 3 days per week.
• Must hold a valid driver's license.
• Must have eligible U.S. work authorization (USC, GC, H1B, or EAD).

Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is an experienced Azure Data Developer or Data Architect who combines strong SQL/NoSQL database expertise with practical application development and enterprise integration experience.

They should be comfortable designing complex data structures, modernizing existing systems, building scalable Azure solutions, and supporting high-availability production applications.

Strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, communication, and experience working in Agile teams are essential.
