What they need

Data Engineer

SQL, Power BI and Data Integration

Build the data foundations behind better business decisions. Take raw information from different systems, turn it into something people can trust, and create reporting and automation that makes their work easier.

Reliance Talent Solutions is partnering with a food manufacturing business to recruit a Data Engineer for its group IT function. Reporting to the Head of IT, you will work across the full journey from source data to business insight, helping develop solutions that meet current needs and support future growth.

Why this opportunity stands out

Your work will connect directly with how the business operates. You will collaborate with teams across production, quality, supply chain and finance, understand the questions they need answered, and build the datasets, dashboards and workflows that help them act. There is scope to improve existing systems while contributing to the next stage of the organisation's data capabilities.

What you will take ownership of

  • Build and maintain data pipelines that bring together information from business applications, ERP systems, manufacturing platforms and relational databases.

  • Develop SQL queries, stored procedures, views and functions, improving performance and investigating issues across databases and integrations.

  • Profile source data, resolve duplicates and inconsistencies, fill information gaps where possible, and establish repeatable preparation and validation rules.

  • Connect internal and external data through APIs, adding useful business context and checking that information remains complete and reliable.

  • Contribute to warehouse design and dimensional modelling, including star schemas, fact tables, dimensions and reusable semantic models.

  • Create Power BI dashboards and reports, using Power Query and DAX to deliver clear measures and useful analysis for business users.

  • Use Power Automate to reduce repetitive reporting and administrative tasks, working with colleagues to identify worthwhile improvements.

  • Maintain documentation, reconciliation checks and exception monitoring, and support sound governance, security and access practices.

Core skills

  • Strong SQL development and relational database knowledge, including complex queries, stored procedures and database optimisation. Experience with SQL Server, Oracle or an equivalent platform is relevant.

  • Practical experience of ETL or ELT, data integration and dimensional modelling, with an understanding of how warehouses and reporting layers fit together.

  • Confidence working with imperfect source data: profiling, cleansing, standardising and validating it before it reaches reports or analytical models.

  • Experience extracting and preparing API data, together with repeatable checks for quality, reconciliation and exception handling.

  • Proven Power BI development skills, including Power Query (M), DAX, semantic models and reports designed around user needs.

  • Experience using Microsoft Power Automate to improve workflows and business processes.

  • The ability to adapt across cloud, on-premises and hybrid environments, using appropriate integration, transformation and orchestration tools.

Experience across different technology stacks is welcome. Relevant exposure may include platforms such as PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Databricks or BigQuery; integration tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, dbt or Airflow; and other reporting environments. You do not need experience with every named platform.

Experience that would add value

  • Work in manufacturing, food or FMCG, or familiarity with ERP, production, supply chain and quality systems.

  • Exposure to Azure or Microsoft Fabric, AWS, Google Cloud, or comparable cloud data platforms.

  • Use of Python, R, Alteryx, notebooks or similar tools for analysis and data preparation.

  • Knowledge of data lineage, metadata, access controls or Power Platform administration and governance.
