Job Title - Data Engineer - Database Administrator (DBA)

Location: Offshore - India (Chennai / Bangalore)

Candidate Skills

• Database Administration & Architecture Strong hands-on administration experience across SQL (Microsoft SQL Server) and NoSQL (MongoDB or equivalent) environments. Managing the endtoend database lifecycle: installation, configuration, security hardening, architecture, and maintenance. Owning database architecture design decisions and recommending improvements to data structures for scale and performance. Applying patches, version upgrades, and maintenance updates with minimal disruption to live services. Documenting database configurations, standards, runbooks, and procedures for cross-environment consistency.
• Production Optimization & Troubleshooting - Deep, hands-on experience troubleshooting and optimizing distributed database clusters under live production load. - Continuous database performance optimization: query tuning, indexing strategies, and resource allocation at production scale. - Leading root-cause analysis (RCA) on high-impact production incidents and implementing preventative, permanent fixes. - Proactively identifying and mitigating scalability, availability, and reliability bottlenecks before they affect production.
• Security, Backup & Disaster Recovery - Understanding database security best practices, including encryption at rest/in transit and strict access control. - Administering user roles, access, and permissions in compliance with enterprise security and regulatory standards. - Managing enterprise database backup, restore, and Disaster Recovery (DR) frameworks to eliminate data loss risks. - Monitoring cluster health, storage capacity, and resource utilization, including long-term capacity planning.
• Automation, Scripting & Infrastructure - Proficient in scripting for the automation of routine DBA workflows using PowerShell, Bash, or Python. - Hands-on experience with production backup/recovery tools and database monitoring/alerting platforms. - Working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server environments supporting production databases. - Experience operating within Agile delivery methodologies, driving issues to resolution with minimal supervision.
• Capabilities - Own, modernize, and maintain live production SQL and NoSQL database systems under high operational workloads. - Diagnose complex performance bottlenecks, refactor expensive queries, and design robust indexing strategies. - Design and execute automated backup, recovery, failover, and disaster recovery strategies. - Automate repetitive administrative and operational tasks via PowerShell, Bash, or Python scripting. - Define architecture baselines and enforce role-based access control, security policies, and regulatory compliance. - Provide end-to-end operational support, root-cause investigations, and technical documentation for stakeholders.
• Responsibilities - Diagnose and resolve production-scale issues across distributed NoSQL (MongoDB) and MS SQL clusters. - Continuously optimize database performance, query execution plans, and compute/storage resource allocation. - Install, configure, patch, and maintain highly available database systems across enterprise environments. - Administer user permissions, access controls, and security configurations to ensure regulatory compliance. - Manage end-to-end backup, recovery, and DR drill execution to protect business data assets. - Monitor system health, alerts, and storage trends to forecast and manage capacity growth. - Lead root-cause analysis on production incidents and implement permanent preventative measures within SLAs. - Collaborate with engineering teams to review database architectural changes and provide technical guidance.
