Data Engineer (Mid to Senior)

Dolphin Insights is a UK data and analytics consultancy specializing in hospitality. We build cloud data platforms for multi-site restaurant, pub and leisure groups the kind of businesses running hundreds of sites, several EPOS and workforce systems, and a lot of manual reporting that shouldn't still be manual.

Our Karachi team is directly employed, not subcontracted, and works alongside our UK architects and delivery leads on live client platforms from day one. You will not be sitting in a delivery factory taking tickets.

The role

You'll build and run production data pipelines on Azure for UK hospitality clients ingesting from EPOS, workforce management, reservations, feedback and kitchen systems into a medallion architecture, then modelling it into something the business can actually use.

Typical work in a given month:

• Building config-driven ingestion pipelines in Azure Data Factory and Databricks, from APIs, SFTP drops and databases
• Writing PySpark transformations from bronze through silver, including incremental loads, CDC/upsert logic, deduplication and SCD Type 2 dimensions
• Modelling conformed dimensions and fact tables into an integrated data model sites, trading day and day-part, employee and role, management hierarchy
• Building data quality checks, reconciliation logic and monitoring, and owning the fix when a feed breaks at 6am UK time
• Setting up and maintaining CI/CD and source control discipline across dev and prod environments
• Joining client calls to explain what you've built and what you found in their data

What we need from you

Essential

• 4+ years in data engineering, with at least 2 on cloud data platforms
• Strong PySpark and Databricks you've tuned a job that fell over on real volumes, and can explain why it fell over
• Azure Data Factory, ADLS Gen2, Delta Lake
• Strong SQL and T-SQL; comfortable with SQL Server as a source
• Python beyond notebooks reusable code, parameterisation, config over hard-coding
• Git and branching discipline; ideally Azure DevOps pipelines
• Clear written and spoken English. You'll be on calls with UK clients regularly
• Willingness to work UK-aligned hours (roughly 12:00–21:00 or 13:00–22:00 PKT depending on the season), with occasional early starts around go-lives

Nice to have

• Unity Catalog, Microsoft Fabric, or Power BI semantic modelling
• Experience with hospitality, retail or any high-volume transactional domain
• Data governance, lineage or master data work
• Any exposure to SSIS-to-cloud migration

Senior candidates if you're beyond 7 years and can lead a workstream, review other engineers' code, and shape the design rather than just implement it, tell us. We'll size the role accordingly.
