Data Engineer (Python and Java/Scala skills)

About the role Hykmann Global Business Solutions AB is looking for a skilled Data Engineer to join an exciting technology-driven assignment focused on building scalable data solutions and backend services. Duration: 1 Year Contract. Are you passionate about data engineering, distributed processing, and solving complex technical challenges? Location: Malmö, Sweden Work model: Hybrid – on-site at the client’s office 3 days per week About the Role As a Data Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data-processing solutions. You will work with modern data technologies and backend frameworks to ensure reliable access to data and efficient data workflows. You will collaborate closely with other engineers, provide technical guidance where needed, and help drive continuous improvements across the team's data engineering capabilities.

Key Responsibilities Build, maintain, and improve data pipelines using distributed data-processing technologies. Develop and maintain scalable data solutions that support the team's needs. Build backend APIs and services to enable efficient and reliable access to data. Provide technical support and share knowledge with colleagues on data engineering topics.

Identify opportunities for technical improvements and drive initiatives from idea to implementation. Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders to design practical, scalable solutions. Take end-to-end ownership of your work and ensure high-quality delivery. Contribute to a collaborative, high-trust, and fast-paced engineering environment.

Skills Python Scala Java Skills & requirements ✅ Required Skills & Qualifications Professional experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar technical role. Strong programming skills in Python and Java or Scala. Solid backend development experience, ideally with Scala Play Framework or an equivalent framework. Strong general software engineering and problem-solving skills.

Experience developing and maintaining software solutions and data-processing workflows. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a master's degree is a strong advantage. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to work independently, take responsibility, and drive tasks forward.

A collaborative mindset with a willingness to share knowledge and support colleagues. Ability to work on-site at the client's office in Malmö three days per week. ⭐ Nice-to-Have Skills & Technologies Experience with one or more of the following technologies will be an advantage: Apache Spark and Apache Flink for distributed data processing. Apache Iceberg for modern data lake architectures.

Microservices deployed on Kubernetes. Snowflake for cloud data warehousing. Apache Kafka for event streaming and data integration. Akka for concurrent and distributed applications.

Grafana for monitoring and data visualisation. Machine learning concepts, tools, or practical ML projects.
