Data Engineering Lead

We are looking for an experienced Lead Data Engineer to drive the design, development, and optimization of secure, scalable, and reliable enterprise data platforms on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

In this role, you will provide hands-on technical leadership in building and modernizing data lakes, lakehouses, data warehouses, and batch and real-time data pipelines. You will establish engineering best practices, mentor data engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data solutions that support analytics, reporting, regulatory compliance, and AI/ML initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Platform Architecture: Design and implement enterprise-grade data lakes, lakehouses, data warehouses, and data marts using AWS-native services.
• Data Pipeline Engineering: Lead the development of scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, real-time data ingestion, and event-driven integrations.
• AWS Engineering: Leverage services such as AWS Glue, Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, Amazon EMR, AWS Step Functions, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon Redshift, and Apache Airflow.
• Data Quality and Reliability: Establish automated data quality checks, monitoring, alerting, incident management, and performance optimization practices.
• Security and Governance: Implement data access controls, encryption, metadata management, data lineage, and compliance controls in collaboration with Security, Risk, and Governance teams.
• Technical Leadership: Lead architecture and code reviews, define engineering standards, mentor data engineers, and promote best practices in DataOps, testing, CI/CD, and documentation.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with enterprise architects, application teams, infrastructure, analytics, AI/ML, product, and business stakeholders to deliver data solutions aligned with business requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in data engineering, data integration, data warehousing, or enterprise data platform development.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience designing and implementing production workloads on AWS.
• At least 3 years of experience in a technical lead or senior engineering role, including mentoring engineers and leading complex technical deliverables.
• Strong programming skills in Python and advanced SQL, with experience in Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Proven experience building enterprise-scale batch and streaming data pipelines, cloud data lakes or lakehouses, and analytical data models.
• Hands-on experience with distributed processing technologies such as Apache Spark, relational and NoSQL databases, object storage, and performance tuning.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer.
• Experience in financial services, fintech, banking, payments, insurance, or other regulated industries.
• Familiarity with medallion architecture, Apache Iceberg or equivalent open table formats, Kafka, change data capture (CDC), and data governance frameworks.
• Experience supporting BI, analytics, AI/ML pipelines, and feature engineering.
• Experience coordinating with external vendors and leading knowledge-transfer initiatives.
