Data Governance Engineer (Enterprise Data Platform)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Engineer to own the technical and platform execution of our enterprise data governance program. Rather than focusing on policy documentation, this role centers on building and maintaining the active, working platform—automating workflows, catalogs, and data quality controls so that governance seamlessly integrates into everyday business operations. You will serve as the bridge between business stakeholders and data infrastructure, eliminating manual processes through self-service and smart automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure and administer the enterprise data governance platform, including workflow notifications, SLAs, escalation logic, and approval chains.
• Build automated workflows for business glossary certification, catalog onboarding, stewardship assignments, and Critical Data Element (CDE) certifications.
• Define and maintain enterprise business terms, metadata repositories, and the mapping between business terminology and technical data assets.
• Develop automated data quality rules, profiling routines, and issue remediation workflows, actively tracking quality exceptions and driving resolutions.
• Document end-to-end data lineage from source systems through data transformation and reporting layers to support audit, compliance, and impact analysis.
• Build and maintain operational dashboards tracking catalog coverage, stewardship engagement, SLA adherence, and key data quality metrics.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in data governance, metadata management, data quality, or general enterprise data management.
• Tech Stack: 3+ years of direct experience administering or implementing enterprise data governance and catalog platforms (e.g., Ataccama or similar platform); working knowledge of SQL and data profiling techniques.
• Domain Knowledge: Proven track record standing up enterprise data catalogs and business glossaries; strong grounding in data lineage, reference data management, CDEs, and Master Data Management (MDM) concepts.
• Education & Extras (Preferred): Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; background in a regulated industry (Financial Services, Healthcare, Banking, or Insurance); exposure to cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure) and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI).
