Do you think about the world visually? Do you feel comfortable with putting data into a digestible, visual format? If so, then this job is for you.

This job is great for people who are visually minded and can create digestible graphics (of any variety) to help tell a news story in a different way.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for producing one assigned graphic per week;
• Responsible for producing one self-reported graphic per month;
• Works closely with social media team to present their work online;
• Works closely with reporters to determine angles and appropriate methods for creating graphics;
• Must be able to think creatively about news presentation (i.e., design, illustration, graphics, etc.);
• Must respect deadlines and should demonstrate a willingness to learn; and
• Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

• Must be a University of Minnesota student;
• Past Minnesota Daily reporting experience strongly encouraged;
• Knowledge of design principles and able to work with an array of visual design products;
• Preferred proficiency in open-source software (i.e. DataWrapper, Knightlab, etc.);
• Success in a University writing-related class strongly advised;
• Knowledge of grammar, style conventions, etc. is essential;
• Should be willing to cultivate a lively social media presence; and
• You do not need to be in the journalism school to apply for this position. We welcome applicants from all majors and backgrounds
