What they need

Our client, a well-established international financial services and insurance organisation, is hiring a Privacy Advisor Lead for its Irish operation. You’ll be the go-to privacy expert for the business, and you’ll also play a central part in shaping its AI governance agenda. This role will suit an experienced data privacy specialist/manager that has strong experience across the UK & Ireland.

Responsibilities:

Privacy

  • Act as the main point of contact between business teams, cross-functional colleagues and the group Privacy Office, advising on privacy obligations, risk and compliance.
  • Bring expert, strategic input to programmes, projects, products and change initiatives that involve personal data.
  • Design privacy solutions that support commercial goals while staying within legal, regulatory, policy and risk boundaries.
  • Build, implement and keep up to date privacy policies, procedures, controls and governance processes that strengthen the control framework.
  • Spot weaknesses in privacy controls, lead their remediation, and recommend practical ways to reduce risk.
  • Take ownership of complex privacy issues and incidents, from investigation and root-cause analysis through to reporting, escalation and resolution.
  • Identify process gaps and emerging risks early, and work with stakeholders to improve processes and reduce exposure.
  • Translate privacy legislation, regulation and industry standards into practical guidance for business strategy, operations and technology, including new and emerging technologies.
  • Track and report on privacy metrics, trends and risks so leadership can make informed decisions.
  • Review documents, forms, processes and customer-facing materials for privacy, legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Work with Compliance, Risk, Internal Audit and Legal on audits, regulatory reviews and privacy queries.
  • Support the DPO on DPIAs, regulatory obligations, engagement with the supervisory authority, and wider privacy governance.
  • Oversee data subject rights requests (DSARs) so they are handled correctly and on time.
  • Handle queries coming through the privacy and DPO mailboxes, resolving or escalating them promptly.
  • Build Privacy by Design into product development, innovation and transformation work.
  • Assess new European privacy, AI and digital legislation, decide how it applies to the business, and coordinate the response.

AI Governance & Compliance

  • Own and continually improve the regional AI governance framework across the full AI lifecycle (intake, risk assessment, deployment, monitoring and reporting), in line with the EU AI Act and other relevant regulation.
  • Prepare governance papers and brief management committees, senior leaders and governance forums on AI, privacy and regulatory matters.
  • Work with Legal, Risk, Compliance and Technology to maintain the AI inventory, oversee risk classification, and make sure internal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Lead the embedding of data protection principles into AI systems.

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or CIPP/E and CIPM certification.
  • At least 5 years’ operational experience in a related area such as financial services, insurance, banking, investments, IT or legal, ideally supporting privacy, risk or compliance activity.
  • At least 4 years in privacy, compliance, risk or regulatory roles, with ownership of complex projects, processes or policies.
  • Experience working as, or closely alongside, a DPO.
  • Solid knowledge of regulatory compliance, industry regulation and regulatory data sources.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with teams at every level, as well as with external regulators.
