What they need
Pricing Data Scientist (PhD – Maths / Statistics / Physics) | London, hybrid | £80,000–£100,000 + up to 20% bonus
Finished a quantitative PhD and want your first industry role to be one with real ownership?
A fast-growing, well-funded UK consumer business is creating a new pricing data science position. At the moment its prices are largely uniform across customers. The plan is to move to pricing that reflects the risk and value of each customer, and this hire will lead that work from the start.
What you’ll do
- Work out which customer and product characteristics drive cost to serve, and turn them into pricing models that can be explained and defended
- Design and run controlled price tests, and build the company’s first demand elasticity curves
- Build customer lifetime value models so pricing decisions weigh long-term value as well as short-term volume
- Present findings to senior leadership, including board-level stakeholders
What they’re looking for
- A PhD in mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science or a related field, with a strong academic record from a leading university
- Confidence with the maths behind the methods: regression and GLMs, experimental design and causal inference (Bayesian methods a plus)
- Clean, reproducible Python, plus SQL and Git, or the ability to pick them up quickly
- The ability to explain technical work to non-technical colleagues
- Interest in the commercial trade-offs between growth, profit and customer value
No pricing or industry experience is needed. Ability, rigour and curiosity matter more than job history here.
Why it’s worth a look: a new problem, real data, direct financial impact and strong senior visibility. You’d join a small, hands-on team in a modern cloud data environment.
