We are seeking a highly skilled, analytical, and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, secure, and optimize enterprise database environments. This role will be responsible for ensuring database availability, performance, reliability, security, backup, recovery, and business continuity while working closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity teams, and business stakeholders. Current Malaysia-based DBA roles commonly focus on database administration, performance tuning, monitoring, security, backup/recovery, upgrades, migrations, and high availability. 🎯 Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database management systems across production and non-production environments.

• Administer databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL , or other enterprise database platforms.

• Monitor database health, availability, capacity, performance, and resource utilization.

• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and storage optimization.

• Troubleshoot database errors, performance bottlenecks, deadlocks, connectivity issues, and system failures.

• Develop and maintain database backup, restoration, and recovery procedures.

• Implement and test disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.

• Configure and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions where required.

• Manage database users, roles, privileges, authentication, and access controls.

• Implement database security measures including encryption, auditing, access management, and security monitoring.

• Perform regular database maintenance, integrity checks, statistics updates, index optimization, and health assessments.

• Support database migrations, upgrades, patching, consolidation, and platform modernization projects.

• Collaborate with software developers to design database schemas, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and optimized queries.

• Support application teams during development, testing, deployment, and production troubleshooting.

• Monitor database capacity and forecast future storage, performance, and infrastructure requirements.

• Maintain database documentation, architecture diagrams, configuration records, operational procedures, and recovery plans.

• Participate in incident, problem, change, and release management activities.

• Investigate recurring database issues and implement permanent corrective actions.

• Support cloud and hybrid database environments as part of digital transformation initiatives.

• Automate routine database administration and monitoring activities where possible.

• Ensure database environments comply with internal IT policies, security requirements, audit standards, and regulatory obligations.

• Prepare database performance, availability, capacity, security, and incident reports for management.

• Continuously evaluate database technologies and recommend improvements to reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

✅ Requirements

• Proven experience in Database Administration, Database Engineering, Systems Administration, or a related IT role .

• Strong hands-on experience with one or more database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL .

• Strong knowledge of SQL, database architecture, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning.

• Experience with database backup, restoration, replication, migration, and disaster recovery.

• Understanding of High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), clustering, replication, and failover technologies .

• Experience managing databases across Windows and/or Linux environments.

• Strong understanding of database security, user access, permissions, encryption, and auditing.

• Experience troubleshooting complex database and application performance issues.

• Knowledge of cloud database services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud is an advantage.

• Experience with monitoring and observability tools for database performance and availability is preferred.

• Strong understanding of ITIL, incident management, change management, and production support processes.

• Experience with automation or scripting using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies is an advantage.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in production environments.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills with developers, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity teams, and business users.

• Ability to participate in on-call or after-hours support when required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Database certifications, AWS Database Specialty, PostgreSQL certifications, or ITIL are an advantage.
