COMS Systems is a growing New Zealand technology company that develops and supports software solutions for the gaming and hospitality industries. Its products help automate manual processes, strengthen security and compliance, and improve operational efficiency across areas including Facial Recognition, Core Gaming Solutions, Cash Management and Room Sweeping applications.

Behind the technology is an experienced in-house team of developers, testers, product specialists and technical support professionals. As COMS Systems’ products and data requirements continue to grow, the business is embarking on a significant database modernisation programme focused on performance, scalability, reporting, data lifecycle management and long-term operational sustainability.

About the role

This is an opportunity for an experienced Database Administrator to take a leading role in shaping the future of COMS Systems’ data platform.

You will assess the current Microsoft SQL Server environment, identify opportunities for improvement, and design a modern, scalable architecture that supports operational processing, reporting, historical retention, analytics and disaster recovery. The role offers genuine scope to influence future technology decisions while remaining closely involved in technical optimisation and delivery.

Working across the business, you will collaborate with developers, testers, support teams and leadership to develop practical solutions that improve system performance, strengthen data governance and support COMS Systems’ continued growth.

About you

You are an experienced database professional who can move confidently between strategic architecture and hands-on technical delivery. You understand the realities of business-critical production environments and can translate complex database challenges into practical, sustainable solutions.

You will bring:

• Extensive Microsoft SQL Server administration experience
• Strong database architecture and solution design capability
• Advanced SQL performance tuning and optimisation skills
• Experience with indexing, partitioning, compression, backup and recovery
• Experience managing scalable, high-volume production database environments
• Strong knowledge of database security, monitoring, availability and resilience
• Experience with Microsoft Azure database technologies
• The ability to analyse complex systems and recommend pragmatic improvements
• Experience developing data lifecycle, retention and archival strategies
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and documentation skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Data Lake, OneLake, Lakehouse or data warehousing environments would be highly advantageous.
