Database Developer

We are looking for a talented Database Developer to design, develop, maintain, and optimise database solutions that support business-critical applications and reporting requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders, developers, analysts, and technical teams to ensure data is secure, accurate, accessible, and performant. This role requires strong technical expertise in database design, SQL development, and performance tuning, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain relational database solutions to support business systems and applications.
• Write, optimise, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes for data integration and migration activities.
• Monitor database performance and implement tuning improvements to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Support database deployments, upgrades, and system enhancements.
• Maintain data integrity, security, and compliance standards across all database environments.
• Collaborate with software developers and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Produce technical documentation for database designs, processes, and standards.
• Investigate and resolve database-related incidents and support requests.
• Contribute to disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity planning activities.
• Identify opportunities to automate database administration and reporting tasks.
• Support the development of data warehousing, business intelligence, and analytics initiatives where required.

Skills & ExperienceEssential

• Proven experience as a Database Developer or similar database-focused role.
• Strong SQL development skills, ideally within Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Experience creating and maintaining stored procedures, views, functions, and database schemas.
• Knowledge of database design principles, indexing strategies, and data modelling techniques.
• Experience with database performance tuning and optimisation.
• Understanding of ETL processes and data integration methodologies.
• Knowledge of database security best practices and access controls.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working within Agile or collaborative delivery environments.

Desirable

• Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, or other cloud-based data platforms.
• Knowledge of data warehousing and business intelligence solutions.
• Familiarity with Power BI, SSIS, SSRS, or SSAS.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and database version control.
• Exposure to Python, PowerShell, or other scripting languages.
• Financial Services or Insurance industry experience.
