Database Engineer

ABOUT US:

PT FIRST WAP INTERNATIONAL is an established software engineering company delivering enterprise and telecommunications solutions for international clients. We build high-performance, business-critical systems and are looking for an experienced Database Engineer to design, develop, optimize, and maintain reliable and high-performance database systems supporting our enterprise and telecommunications applications.

THE ROLE:

Under the supervision of the Team Leader or Development Department Manager, designs, develops, optimizes, and maintains database systems for web and mobile applications in accordance with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize database schemas, queries, stored procedures, functions, and other database objects.
• Manage and optimize MySQL/MariaDB environments, including clustered, replicated, and high-availability systems.
• Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and support system testing, deployment, and performance validation.
• Implement database backup, recovery, migration, archival, and upgrade strategies to ensure reliability and business continuity.
• Investigate and resolve database-related issues while identifying technical debt and opportunities for system improvement.
• Maintain technical documentation and provide regular project updates through Redmine or other approved tools.
• Stay updated with relevant database technologies and collaborate with internal teams, partners, and clients when required.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or a related software development role.
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with MySQL or MariaDB, including at least 1 year managing clustered, replicated, or high-availability environments.
• Experience with large-scale or high-performance databases, query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and database troubleshooting.
• Experience with stored procedures, functions, triggers, backup, recovery, migration, and upgrade strategies.
• Good English communication skills, both written and verbal.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Experience with Percona, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, or other distributed database technologies.
• Experience with big data technologies and Redmine.
• Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and manage multiple priorities.
