Database Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and support PostgreSQL databases across Production, QA, and Development environments, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Design, configure, and troubleshoot Oracle GoldenGate replication (uni-directional and bi-directional/active-active) for real-time data synchronization across heterogeneous environments.
• Perform database performance tuning using EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, pg_stat_statements, query optimization, and indexing strategies.
• Manage backup and recovery operations using pg_dump, pg_restore, pg_basebackup, WAL archiving, and Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR).
• Resolve GoldenGate replication issues including lag, sync-up failures, long-running transactions, and archive log gaps.
• Support database migrations (Oracle-to-PostgreSQL, on-prem to AWS RDS/Aurora) including schema conversion and data validation using tools such as AWS SCT and DMS.
• Implement routine maintenance: VACUUM, ANALYZE, autovacuum tuning, partitioning, and bloat management.
• Configure and maintain PostgreSQL security: roles, privileges, SSL/TLS, pg_hba.conf, and least-privilege access models.
• Set up and maintain High Availability/Disaster Recovery using streaming replication and automated failover.
• Collaborate with application, cloud, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to design scalable, secure, and resilient database solutions.
• Develop automation scripts (Shell/Python/Ansible) to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
• Provide production support, including participation in on-call rotations for 24x7 critical operations.

Preferred candidate profile

• Strong hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL (or Aurora PostgreSQL) in production environments.
• Proven experience with Oracle GoldenGate installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Extract/Replicat/Pump processes.
• Solid understanding of replication architectures (uni/bi-directional, active-active).
• Experience with performance tuning tools: pg_stat_statements, EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, query optimization, indexing.
• Backup/recovery expertise: pg_dump, pg_restore, pg_basebackup, WAL-based PITR.
• Scripting experience in Shell and/or Python for database automation.
• Familiarity with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS, Aurora); AWS DMS/SCT experience a plus.
• Oracle DBA background (RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN) useful for hybrid Oracle/Postgres environments.
• Exposure to MongoDB administration.
• Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent certification.
