Database Platform Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a Database Platform Specialist to manage, maintain, and optimise business-critical database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, AWS, and Windows/Linux operating systems, ensuring database availability, security, performance, and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily database operations, including incident resolution, performance monitoring, database refreshes, access management, backup, and recovery.
• Install, configure, deploy, and maintain database platforms to meet business and application requirements.
• Perform database performance tuning, troubleshooting, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
• Manage cloud database services across Microsoft Azure and AWS, including Azure SQL, Azure PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Implement security baselines, access controls, patches, and vulnerability remediation to ensure database security and compliance.
• Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure engineers, and global stakeholders to deliver reliable database solutions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives using Agile practices and standardised database management processes.

About you

• Diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, with relevant experience in database administration or platform support.
• Strong knowledge of database installation, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, performance tuning, patching, and upgrades.
• Hands-on experience with Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Experience managing cloud database services on Microsoft Azure and AWS, including Azure SQL, Azure PostgreSQL, and Amazon RDS.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication, stakeholder management, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a global, multicultural environment.
