Daycare Floater

Job Overview

We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Daycare Floater to join our early childhood education team. Floaters keep our center running smoothly. You will move between classrooms throughout the day, covering teacher breaks, lunches, planning time, and absences so every room stays in ratio and every child gets consistent, nurturing care. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, adapts quickly, and is comfortable caring for children of all ages, from infants through Pre-K.

Responsibilities

• Rotate between infant, toddler, preschool, and Pre-K classrooms based on the daily coverage schedule
• Cover teacher breaks, lunches, and planning time, and step in for staff absences or call-outs
• Help maintain required staff-to-child ratios throughout the day, especially during arrival, dismissal, and transitions
• Learn and follow each classroom's routines, schedules, and lesson plans so children experience consistency no matter who is in the room
• Know each child's allergies, dietary needs, and care plans in every room you cover
• Give and receive clear handoffs with lead teachers, including name-to-face headcounts and updates on diapers, bottles, naps, and any incidents
• Provide hands-on care including diapering, toileting, bottle feeding, meals, and nap times, following safe sleep practices for infants
• Support children's emotional, social, and physical development through warm, engaging interactions and positive behavior guidance
• Complete daily reports (meals, naps, diapers, activities) for the time you cover
• Help with cleaning, sanitizing, laundry, restocking supplies, and preparing learning materials when not covering a classroom
• Share friendly, accurate updates with parents at drop-off and pick-up
• Follow all health, safety, and licensing guidelines, including first aid procedures when necessary
• Participate in ongoing training related to child development, behavior management, and special education needs

Skills

• Experience caring for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in a daycare, preschool, or similar setting, and comfortable switching between age groups in the same day
• Flexibility and a calm, positive attitude when room assignments or schedules change on short notice
• Dependable attendance and punctuality, since classroom coverage depends on you
• Ability to quickly pick up different classroom routines and teaching styles
• Compassionate caregiving approach with patience and understanding
• Knowledge of child development, positive behavior guidance, and classroom management
• Strong attention to detail with allergies, feeding schedules, safe sleep, and headcounts
• Ability to work effectively with children with disabilities or special needs
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to work with teachers, administrators, and parents
• CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to get certified after hire
• ITS-SIDS safe sleep training, or willingness to complete it, since floaters cover the infant room
• Must be able to pass a North Carolina child care criminal background check
• NC Early Childhood Credential or early childhood coursework a plus; a nannying or babysitting background is also welcome

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour
