DBA Junior

About the role

We are seeking a DBA Junior to join our dynamic Information & Communication Technology team This role is based in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. As a DBA Junior, you will support our database infrastructure and operations, working under the guidance of senior database administrators to ensure optimal system performance, security, and reliability. This position offers a valuable opportunity to develop your database administration expertise in a professional environment whilst contributing to the stability and efficiency of our critical systems.

What you'll be doing

• Assisting with the installation, configuration and maintenance of database management systems
• Monitoring database performance and alerting senior team members to any anomalies or potential issues
• Supporting the backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity
• Performing routine database maintenance tasks including updates, patches and optimisation
• Assisting with user account management and access control within database environments
• Documenting database configurations, procedures and changes for compliance and knowledge sharing purposes
• Troubleshooting and resolving database connectivity and performance issues under senior supervision
• Supporting the implementation of security protocols and best practices across database systems
• Participating in on-call support rotation as required

What we're looking for

• Formal qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Foundational knowledge of database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL or PostgreSQL
• Understanding of database architecture, design principles and relational databases
• Knowledge of SQL query writing and basic database administration commands
• Familiarity with backup and recovery concepts and procedures
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team
• Willingness to learn and develop technical expertise in database administration
• Ability to work in a structured environment and follow established procedures
• Preferred experience: exposure to cloud database platforms, scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python, and monitoring tools
