What they need
Marlin Resources is restarting the McKay River SAGD facility near Fort McMurray, AB, and we are assembling the operations team to lead it back to production. This is a rare opportunity to join a thermal operation at the outset.
Contract or Full Time Positions Available | Fly-in/Fly-out | Camp Based | 7 days on / 7 days off, 84 hours per rotation
An Opportunity to Be In From the Start
Marlin Resources is restarting the McKay River SAGD facility, and we are staffing the control-system role that operations will rely on to get the plant back online. This is a chance to join a thermal operation at the outset.
You will help bring the DCS back to a working HMI-to-controller state so loop checks can start, then stay with the plant through commissioning and into operations. We want someone who will set practical control-system habits the operating team can live with, and who will use what they have learned on other plants to improve how this one runs.
A restart demands commitment, adaptability and strong teamwork. In return, it offers meaningful ownership of the outcome and the chance to build a high-performing operation from the ground up.
About the Role
You will report to the Operations Manager. The plant DCS is a Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley ControlLogix system, with FactoryTalk View as the control-room HMI. You will support restart and day-to-day control-system work: connectivity, graphics, logic changes, and troubleshooting alongside operations.
Responsibilities
- Bring the control system up, confirm connectivity, and reach a working HMI-to-controller state so loop checks can begin
- Support loop checks, startup sequencing, and early troubleshooting with operations
- Maintain and back up the ControlLogix application and FactoryTalk View graphics
- Make controlled logic and graphics changes as systems come online
- Support interlocks, permissives, and sequence checkout
- Troubleshoot HMI, controller, and communications issues
- Work with instrument technicians, electricians, and package vendors
- Keep changes documented and handed over to operations
- Support control-room operators during start-up and unusual conditions
- Help set control-system practices for the running plant
- Bring forward practical improvements from past plant experience
- Maintain HSE and site competency requirements
Qualifications
- Hands-on Rockwell ControlLogix experience required (Studio 5000 or RSLogix 5000); FactoryTalk View experience required
- Process-plant commissioning or start-up support preferred
- SAGD or other thermal plant experience is an asset
- Comfortable working where procedures are still being written
- Strong work ethic, and ready for the pace of a restart
- Works well with operations and the trades
- Clear verbal and written communication
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Valid Alberta industrial safety tickets. Willing to work a camp rotation northwest of Fort McMurray
Compensation & Schedule
- Role dependent
- 7 days on / 7 days off, 84 hours per rotation
- Commissioning: Schedule adjusted as needed
Experience:
- Hands-on Rockwell ControlLogix (Studio 5000 or RSLogix 5000): 1 year (required)
Work Location: In person
