Debate Team Advisor

Deering H.S. is currently looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and knowledgeable candidate to serve as our Debate Team Advisor for the 2026-27 season that runs from mid-September to mid-April. Candidate must be flexible to work within a cooperative team environment, be skilled at enaging and supporting students from diverse backgrounds and welcome the chance to build off the DHS Debate Team's strong culture, engaged student membership and a history of successes and mutiple State Championships in several disciplines of Debate and at MPA events. Previous H.S. or college Debate Team advising and educational leadership/teaching experience is ideal, but not required.

The DHS Debate Team practices after school 2-3 days/week at DHS in Portland, Maine, and competes in various MPA and Maine Forensic Association https://www.maineforensic.org Speech and Debate events, which can include bus travel/trips throughout Maine on some Saturdays. Schedule can vary based on advisor's and students' availability (Most debate events fall during the fall/winter terms.)
