DEBT COLLECTOR

About the role

Banzen Motors Sdn Bhd is seeking a Debt Collector to join our Collections team in Melaka on a full-time basis. This role is essential to our financial operations, as you will be responsible for recovering outstanding debts and ensuring timely payments from customers. As a Debt Collector, you will play a critical part in maintaining the financial health of our organisation whilst maintaining professional and ethical standards in all interactions with debtors.

What you'll be doing

1. Contacting customers with outstanding accounts via telephone, email, and in-person visits to negotiate payment arrangements
2. Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all collection activities, payments received, and customer communications
3. Developing and implementing effective collection strategies to recover overdue debts within specified timescales
4. Negotiating payment plans and settlement agreements with customers whilst adhering to company policies and legal requirements
5. Following up on payment commitments and ensuring customers meet agreed-upon deadlines
6. Escalating complex or difficult cases to senior management when necessary
7. Preparing comprehensive reports on collection activities, recovery rates, and outstanding balances
8. Complying with all relevant debt collection legislation and regulatory requirements
9. Collaborating with other departments to resolve disputes and verify account information

What we're looking for

1. Proven experience working in debt collection, credit management, or a similar collections environment
2. Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to remain professional and composed under pressure
3. Excellent organisational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple accounts simultaneously
4. A thorough understanding of debt collection practices, regulations, and compliance requirements
5. Proficiency in using collection software and computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications
6. The ability to work independently whilst maintaining effectiveness as part of a team
7. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively about recovery solutions
8. A professional demeanour with excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
9. Fluency in English and Malay; additional languages are advantageous
10. Willingness to undertake field visits when necessary
11. A valid driving licence is preferred
