Delivery Driver

Location: Sunderland, covering the North East

Reports to: Head Brewer & Sales Lead

Hours: Part-time, Wed–Fri, with occasional extra hours at peak times

Salary: £27k per annum (pro rata)

Vaux is an independent craft brewery in Sunderland, carrying on a proud North East brewing name. We brew beer we're genuinely proud of and supply pubs, bars, restaurants and venues across the region. Our drivers are often the face of Vaux that our customers see most, so this role matters a lot to us.

The role

We're looking for a reliable, friendly and hard-working Delivery Driver to get our kegs, casks and cans out to customers across the North East. You'll be the person our customers know and trust – turning up on time, looking after their cellar drops, and keeping them stocked with Vaux beer. Alongside driving, you'll help build relationships with our customers and pick up repeat orders and new sales, and lend a hand around the brewery when things get busy.

Key responsibilitiesDeliveries

• Deliver kegs, casks and packaged beer to pubs, bars, restaurants and other customers across the North East
• Safely load, unload and handle cans, bottles, kegs and casks (10-50kg+), using correct manual handling techniques and the equipment provided
• Plan and follow delivery routes efficiently, keeping to agreed delivery windows
• Collect empty kegs and casks and keep accurate records of containers out and returned
• Complete delivery paperwork, get proof of delivery signatures and handle any queries on the spot
• Carry out daily vehicle checks and keep the van clean, tidy and roadworthy
• Follow food safety, health and safety, and drivers' hours requirements at all times

Customer care and sales

• Represent Vaux professionally – presentable, polite and helpful on every drop
• Build good relationships with landlords, bar managers and cellar staff
• Take repeat orders and chat to customers about upcoming and seasonal beers
• Pass on customer feedback, new leads and any issues to the brewery team
• Help grow sales by spotting opportunities for new lines or more regular orders

Brewery support

• Help out in the brewery when needed, particularly at busy times such as Christmas and summer
• Support with canning and bottling runs
• Pick, pack and dispatch orders, including online and gift orders
• Help keep the warehouse and cold store organised and stock levels accurate

About youEssential

• Full UK driving licence with a good driving record
• Able to meet the requirements of our vehicle insurance (our insurer currently requires drivers to be aged 25 or over)
• Physically fit and comfortable with regular lifting and moving of heavy kegs and casks
• Reliable, punctual and well organised
• Friendly and confident with customers, with a smart, professional manner
• Good local knowledge of the North East, or quick to learn routes

Desirable

• Previous experience in drinks delivery, multi-drop driving or the hospitality trade
• A real interest in craft beer and brewing
• Some experience in sales or customer service
• Basic cellar knowledge
• Manual handling or forklift training
