What they need

Job Advert: Dementia Activities Co‑ordinator

Allandale Care Group is recruiting a Dementia Activities Co‑ordinator to join our warm, dedicated team. This role is central to delivering meaningful, person‑centred engagement for residents living with dementia, ensuring every individual experience joy, stimulation, comfort, and connection throughout their day.

About the Role

As our Dementia Activities Co‑ordinator, you will design and deliver a varied programme of activities tailored to the needs, abilities, and preferences of residents. You will work closely with care staff, families, and the wider team to create a homely, inclusive environment where residents feel valued and supported.

You will work alongside our existing Activities Co‑ordinator, supporting a collaborative, creative, and well‑structured activities programme across the home.

A key part of this role includes leading minibus outings, enabling residents to enjoy trips into the community, attend appointments, and experience new environments safely and comfortably. Therefore, a full UK driving licence is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Activity Planning — Create daily and weekly activity schedules that promote cognitive stimulation, wellbeing, and enjoyment.
  • Minibus Outings — Drive the Allandale minibus to facilitate community trips, scenic outings, and appointment support.
  • Team Collaboration — Work closely with our Activities Co‑ordinator and care staff to deliver a cohesive, engaging programme.
  • Person‑Centred Engagement — Adapt activities to individual needs, ensuring accessibility and meaningful participation.
  • Community & Family Involvement — Encourage family engagement and support community‑based projects and events.
  • Documentation & Reporting — Maintain accurate records of participation, outcomes, and resident preferences.

· Adapting activities**:** modifying activities for different stages of dementia, mobility, sensory impairment, communication difficulties and fluctuating cognition.

· Meaningful occupation**:** recognising that activities can include gardening, baking, music, reminiscence, household tasks, walks, conversation, sensory activities and individual one-to-one engagement—not just organised group sessions.

· Supporting distress**:** using reassurance, distraction, familiar music, reminiscence and meaningful engagement were residents experience anxiety, agitation or confusion.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Creative and compassionate, with a genuine passion for dementia care.
  • Confident in leading group and one‑to‑one sessions.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Skilled at building warm, trusting relationships with residents and families.
  • A competent driver, comfortable transporting residents safely in the minibus.
  • Comfortable adapting activities to meet changing needs.
  • A positive team player who enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience in dementia care or activity coordination is essential
  • Training in dementia awareness, reminiscence therapy, or wellbeing activities is an advantage.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn are essential.
