Duties

• Assist dentists chairside during various dental procedures, including general dentistry, endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery
• Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all dental equipment is functioning properly
• Take and develop dental x-rays, including 3D scans when applicable, while adhering to infection prevention management protocols
• Manage patient records using electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as OpenDental, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
• Educate patients on oral health care practices and post-treatment instructions while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies
• Perform dental instrument processing and sterilization procedures following strict aseptic techniques
• Monitor vital signs and assist with medical documentation to support comprehensive patient care

Skills

• Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and chairside assisting
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry
• Experience with dental x-ray procedures
• Familiarity with patient management software like OpenDental for scheduling and record keeping
• Understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control standards to ensure a safe clinical environment
• Ability to operate dental sterilization procedures effectively while adhering to infection control protocols
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with the dental team and provide compassionate patient care
• Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices is a plus for working with young patients
