Dental Assistant Trainee

About the role

Pius X Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a motivated and community minded Dental Assistant Trainee to join our busy Dental Clinic. As a trainee, you will receive hands on clinical experience, structured supervision, and formal training toward a Certificate III or IV in Dental Assisting—all while contributing to culturally safe, high quality care for our community.

Key responsibilities

• Support dentists and oral health clinicians during treatments
• Prepare dental surgery rooms, instruments, and equipment
• Follow sterilisation, infection control, and WHS procedures
• Assist with patient flow, bookings, recalls, and client communication
• Maintain accurate patient records and support administrative tasks
• Participate in outreach, school dental programs, and community oral health activities
• Provide culturally safe, respectful care to Aboriginal clients and families

About you

• Respectful, culturally aware, and committed to supporting Aboriginal families
• Reliable, punctual, and eager to learn
• Able to follow instructions, routines, and clinical procedures
• Calm, friendly, and professional in busy environments
• A strong communicator who works well in a team
• Interested in building a career in dental or health services
• Aboriginality (Section 14D, Anti Discrimination Act NSW)
• Willingness to enrol in and complete Certificate III/IV in Dental Assisting
• Compliance with Category A immunisation requirements
• Current Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
