Role Objective

Own the technical development of sheet-metal, chassis, and structural-tube components from feasibility through tooling, trials, and PPAP/production readiness.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct DFM/DFA review of sheet-metal and tube-based parts/ plastic parts in the redesigned BOM.
• Evaluate supplier technical capability — press tonnage, die capability, welding/jig setup — jointly with Quality audits.
• Own tooling/die development and trial management (T0–T2) at supplier tool rooms.
• Drive sample approval, dimensional studies, and process capability (Cpk) analysis.
• Root-cause and correct stamping/welding defects: springback, weld distortion, dimensional variation.
• Coordinate PPAP submission and closure with Quality.
• Support VA/VE for weight and cost reduction (gauge optimization, part consolidation, tube-section standardization).
• Sign off on production readiness for sheet-metal/tube parts before handoff to Purchase.

Technical Requirements

• Sheet-metal stamping fundamentals (progressive/transfer dies), tube bending/hydroforming basics.
• Welding processes relevant to two-wheeler chassis: MIG, spot, robotic welding.
• GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• DFM/DFA principles for sheet-metal and tubular structures.
• Basic structural/FEA awareness sufficient to discuss load-bearing implications with design.

Or

• Injection molding process and mold-design fundamentals (hot runner vs. cold runner, family tooling).
• Plastics material science: PP, ABS, PA-GF, PC/ABS and similar engineering grades.
• Rubber compounding basics: NR, EPDM, NBR, silicone — selection criteria for automotive sealing/vibration parts.
• DFM/DFA for injection-molded and rubber-molded parts.
• Mold-flow analysis awareness (does not need to run the simulation, must interpret results).

Educational Qualifications

B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Automobile, or Production Engineering.

Preferred Industry Background

Two-wheeler or passenger-vehicle OEM, or a Tier-1 sheet-metal/chassis/structural-component supplier.

Preferred Manufacturing-Process Knowledge

Sheet-metal stamping, blanking, punching, bending; tube cutting and bending; welding and fabrication; chassis/structural-component manufacturing.

ERP / Software Requirements

CAD (Creo/SolidWorks/CATIA); SAP or equivalent QMS for PPAP documentation.

Behavioral Competencies

• Comfortable on the shop floor at supplier tool rooms, not desk-only.
• Structured problem-solving (8D/root-cause analysis) under production-date pressure.
• Ability to coach and develop supplier technical capability, not just audit it.
• Urgency and adaptability suited to an early-stage manufacturing environment.

Key Performance Indicators

• Tooling trial-to-approval cycle time.
• First-time-right sample approval percentage.
• Rejection-rate reduction on sheet-metal/tube parts/plastics/rubber parts.
• Tool/part cost reduction achieved.
• Weight/cost reduction achieved on owned parts.
• PPAP closure timeline adherence.
