St Giles House Hotel is looking for an ambitious, hands-on Deputy General Manager to join our management team.

This is an opportunity for an experienced hospitality manager who is ready to take the next step into whole-hotel operations.

You don't necessarily need to be a Deputy General Manager already.

You might currently be a Hotel Duty Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, Front Office Manager, Restaurant Manager within a hotel, or Assistant General Manager and feel ready for greater responsibility.

We're less concerned with your current job title than we are with finding someone with the right experience, attitude and potential to become a genuine number two to our General Manager.

The Role

Working closely with the General Manager, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day running of St Giles House.

You'll work alongside our Food & Beverage Manager, Head Chef and Housekeeping Manager, with particular responsibility for Reception, reservations and the wider hotel operation.

As you develop within the role, you'll be expected to confidently take responsibility for the hotel in the General Manager's absence.

Responsibilities will include:

• Leading and supporting the Reception team.
• Overseeing reservations, arrivals, departures and the overall guest journey.
• Acting as Manager on Duty and providing visible leadership across the hotel.
• Taking responsibility for the hotel operation in the General Manager's absence.
• Working alongside departmental managers to maintain excellent standards.
• Ensuring effective communication between Reception, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage and Kitchen.
• Handling guest feedback, complaints and service recovery confidently.
• Supporting the management of occupancy, room rates, reservations and online booking channels.
• Helping to maximise direct bookings and identify commercial opportunities.
• Supporting restaurant, bar, functions and events when required.
• Assisting with recruitment, onboarding, training and team development.
• Supporting rotas, holiday planning and effective deployment of the team.
• Monitoring bedroom and public-area standards.
• Coordinating maintenance issues and contractors where required.
• Supporting health & safety, fire safety and general hotel compliance.
• Helping to develop and improve procedures and operating standards.
• Stepping into different areas of the operation when needed.

Who We're Looking For

This could be your first Deputy General Manager position.

We're particularly interested in hearing from experienced hotel managers who have successfully managed a department or worked as a Duty Manager and now want exposure to the wider commercial and operational management of a hotel.

Strong Food & Beverage experience would be particularly welcome. If you're currently managing a hotel restaurant or F&B operation and want to broaden your experience across Rooms, Reception, reservations and overall hotel operations, this could be a natural next step.

Likewise, we'd be very interested in an experienced Hotel Duty Manager or Front Office Manager who is ready for greater responsibility.

You'll ideally bring:

• Previous supervisory or management experience within a hotel or quality hospitality environment.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Excellent guest-service and problem-solving abilities.
• The confidence to take responsibility and make sensible decisions.
• Good commercial awareness.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• A practical, hands-on management style.
• The ambition to develop your knowledge of the whole hotel business.
• Flexibility to work across different areas of the operation when required.

Experience with hotel PMS, reservations and OTA systems would be advantageous, but we are willing to develop the right candidate where they bring strong operational experience and the right attitude.
