Since opening its doors, the nursery has been committed to providing quality early childhood education and care for children aged 3 months to seven years, fostering development and lifelong learning.

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and energetic Deputy Manager to join our vibrant team. In this vital leadership role, you will support the Nursery Manager in delivering exceptional care and education, ensuring smooth daily operations, and maintaining a warm, engaging environment for children and staff alike. Your enthusiasm for teaching and dedication to early childhood development will help inspire our team and enrich the lives of the children we serve.

Duties

  • Assist the Nursery Manager in overseeing daily nursery operations, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and childcare requirements.
  • Act as the Nursery Manager in their absence, including during maternity leave, annual leave, sickness, or other periods of absence, taking responsibility for the effective day-to-day management and smooth running of the nursery.
  • Ensure the nursery continues to meet Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) requirements, maintaining high standards of care, safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote learning and development through play.
  • Lead by example in creating a nurturing, inclusive environment that encourages children's curiosity, well-being, and development.
  • Supervise and support staff members, providing guidance, mentorship, and leadership to maintain a motivated and effective team.
  • Oversee staff deployment and rotas, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Maintain strong relationships with parents and guardians, communicating effectively about children's progress, needs, and well-being.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures and safeguarding policies are consistently followed to provide a safe and secure environment for all children.
  • Manage day-to-day administrative responsibilities, including records, documentation, and reporting, ensuring these are accurate and up to date.
  • Contribute to staff training, induction, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
  • Support the implementation and review of nursery policies, procedures, and quality improvement plans.
  • Communicate effectively with the Nursery Manager and wider management team, providing updates on nursery operations, staffing, and any concerns or issues requiring attention.
  • Make appropriate management decisions in the Nursery Manager's absence, ensuring continuity of care and maintaining the high standards expected within the setting.

Experience

  • Proven experience working with young children in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to support and motivate a team.
  • Strong understanding of early childhood development principles.
  • Experience in implementing engaging teaching strategies that cater to diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with parents, staff, and external agencies.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to childcare environments.
  • A passion for teaching and a commitment to creating positive learning experiences for children.
