What they need

Permanent, full-time · Aotearoa Infinite Academy · Includes a teaching component · Start Term 1, 2027

Every learner, every day, known and supported. Aotearoa Infinite Academy, New Zealand's first online charter school, is a thriving community growing to 2,000 students in 2027. To bring our goals for our learners to life, we're expanding our senior leadership team from two to six Deputy Principals, each leading a strategic portfolio shaped by the Golden Circle. This is the WHY role: the portfolio at the centre of everything we do. You'll make sure every student can access, attend and thrive in our online school.

What you'll lead

please note this is not exhaustive and may be subject to change

  • Attendance and engagement, schoolwide. You're our lead DP for strategy, systems, data and Board reporting. You'll own the policy, codes, dashboards and intervention tiers, and work with pastoral DPs who follow up their year levels.
  • Student support and case management. Chair the weekly Student Support meeting and oversee individual plans, reviews and escalation of persistent non-attenders.
  • Learning support. Oversee our SENCO, ESOL, IEPs, ORS and RTLB applications, and learning assistant timetables.
  • Interagency work. Be the school's key link with Oranga Tamariki, RTLB, health, counselling and Youth Services.
  • Enrichment and access. Lead GATE and enrichment programmes, and open doors for priority and disengaged learners.
  • Behaviour. Lead restorative practice, stand-down and suspension procedures, and behaviour data.
  • Board reporting. Report termly on attendance, engagement and learning support.

Who you are

We want people who are loyal to our vision, passionate about doing things differently, hard-working and unafraid of change and innovation. You'll also bring:

  • A registered teacher with a full practising certificate and proven middle or senior leadership in pastoral care, learning support or student services.
  • Data-confident: you turn attendance and engagement numbers into clear actions and Board-ready reports.
  • Calm and warm with young people and whānau in difficult moments, and firm on process.
  • Experienced working with outside agencies and across staff teams.
  • Committed to equity and to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi in how we support learners.

What we offer

A newly created role in an expanded, collaborative leadership team at a thriving, fast-growing school, with a teaching component that keeps you connected to learners. Like every DP, you'll report to the Principal on your portfolio, line-manage portfolio leaders, contribute to staff PLD and share the duty roster. Competitive remuneration.

Other offers great for you!
