Design Assistant / Technical Designer

Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Design Assistant / Technical Designer to join our creative team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate closely with designers, product developers, and manufacturing partners to bring innovative concepts to life. You will be instrumental in translating design ideas into technical specifications, ensuring seamless execution throughout the product lifecycle. This paid position is perfect for someone eager to grow their expertise in graphic design, garment construction, and product development within a vibrant creative environment.

We are looking for someone who is skilled and calling out specs and construction for complex designs. Must be comfortable working with a team. This is an onsite position, located in DTLA.

Duties

• Assist in developing and editing technical sketches on Adobe Illustrator.
• Use Microsoft Excel to create tech packs with all the information needed to make a garment.
• Support the development of textiles and fabric choices, integrating textile knowledge into industrial design processes
• Prepare technical specifications for manufacturing, including seam allowances, construction details, and fabric requirements
• Conduct fittings and garment construction reviews using sewing machines and 3D modeling software to ensure design integrity
• Maintain organized files of design sketches, CAD files, color palettes, and technical documentation for seamless project management
• Communicate cross-functionally with merchandising, production, and styling teams to align on project goals and timelines
• Measure garments and call out any corrections by creating a fit comment document.
• Organization skills, locating samples and trims, logging all items, steaming, and ensuring everything is in order.
• Updating line plans, line sheets, and decks accordingly to track and showcase progress
• Diligent in a fast paced envoirnment. Able to keep track of all feedback and updates while executing it in a timely manner.

Experience

• Proven experience with Adobe Illustrator for technical flat sketching
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel
• Experience with tech pack creation and product development
• Knowledge of textiles used in industrial design and fashion applications
• Skills in garment construction, sewing techniques, calling out specs, and measuring garments
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills to collaborate effectively across teams
• Administrative or assistant experience is a plus
