Design Engineer

We are a steel fabrication and erection company based in Sharjah, UAE, looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join our in-house engineering team.

You will be responsible for structural analysis, design, drawing preparation, and technical coordination for structural steel projects including industrial buildings, warehouses, platforms, mezzanine floors, PEB structures, and heavy steel fabrication works across the UAE.

This is a hands-on, contractor-side role — ideal for engineers who enjoy working closely with fabrication workshops and site erection teams, not just office design.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design of steel structures using STAAD.Pro
• Prepare structural GA drawings, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and connection details using AutoCAD
• Design steel connections — bolted and welded — per AISC / Eurocode 3 / BS 5950 standards
• Perform load calculations — dead, live, wind, seismic, crane, and equipment loads
• Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM) and steel quantity takeoffs
• Review and approve shop drawings from fabrication team
• Resolve technical queries (RFIs) from workshop and site teams
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, QC team, and project managers
• Attend site visits to verify structural erection per approved drawings
• Prepare and submit technical documents for UAE authority approvals
• Manage drawing revisions, document control, and engineering submittals
• Provide technical support to fabrication and site installation teams

Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years as a Design Engineer or Structural Engineer
• Experience in structural steel, steel fabrication, PEB, or industrial construction — highly preferred
• UAE or GCC experience preferred

Technical Knowledge:

• Structural steel design — beams, columns, trusses, bracings, connections
• AISC 360 / Eurocode 3 / BS 5950 design codes
• Steel connection design — end plates, gussets, base plates, splice connections
• BOM preparation and material takeoffs
• Steel fabrication processes and weld symbols
• Material grades — A36, A572, S275, S355

Nice to Have

• Experience with Tekla Structures for 3D steel detailing
• Knowledge of PEB system design
• UAE authority submission experience (DM / Trakhees / Abu Dhabi Municipality)
• Background working for a steel fabrication contractor (not just consultancy)
