Design Engineer

Sr. Mechanical Designer (Contract-to-Hire)

We are partnering with a growing engineering organization seeking a Sr. Mechanical Designer to support industrial and manufacturing projects. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for an experienced designer with strong piping, equipment layout, and plant design experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop piping layouts, equipment arrangements, and mechanical design packages for industrial projects.
• Create and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings in accordance with company, customer, and industry standards.
• Review project specifications and design requirements to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Generate complete drawing packages, including revisions and as-built documentation.
• Perform design-related calculations and engineering analyses to support design validation.
• Participate in design reviews and collaborate with engineering, operations, and project teams.
• Conduct field verification and site walks as required to support project execution.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design and drafting within industrial, manufacturing, process, or heavy industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• Piping isometrics
• Piping plans and elevations
• Equipment layouts
• Structural and foundation drawings
• Ventilation and utility systems
• Ability to read, interpret, and modify existing P&IDs and piping isometric drawings.
• Experience routing new piping systems and modifying existing process piping.
• Familiarity with industrial process equipment and plant layouts.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD design software.
• Experience with structural platforms, pipe racks, concrete structures, or stormwater/drainage systems is a plus.
• Chemical, process, or manufacturing industry experience preferred.
