Design Engineer

Northern Tool, a Star Cutter Company, is a 4th generation family owned, globally recognized, manufacturer of custom round tools and hobs. We are seeking a Design Engineer to join our team at our Farmington Hills location. This individual will work closely with team to design and manufacture tools that meet our customer's needs.

Job Responsibilities

• Act as an expert for tooling designs by designing and modifying designs to production and application of carbide cutting tools.
• Assist with ongoing programming and developing of inspection standards to meet Star Cutter Quality standards.
• Improve design processes by assisting with developing and modifying design standards with an emphasis on robust designs completed in timely and efficient manner.
• Create 3D modelling utilizing SolidWorks and 2D drawings as needed utilizing AutoCAD.
• Support continuous improvement activities throughout the manufacturing process utilizing manufacturing processes and engineering techniques.
• Directly support the Return Merchandise Authorization process working with plant quality requirements for timely processing and evaluations
• Work closely with application engineering and commercial sales to ensure designed and manufactured products perform to customer expectations

Education and Experience

• Associate's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
• 1 to 2 years’ experience in tooling manufacturing preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
• Must meet ITAR compliance requirements
