Design Engineer

Design & Development

• 3D Modeling: Create complex 3D models and large assemblies of heavy sheet metal components using software like SolidWorks, Creo, or Autodesk Inventor.
• Flat Pattern Generation: Develop accurate flat patterns, calculating correct bend allowances and K-factors specifically optimized for thick materials.
• Enclosure & Structure Design: Design heavy-duty enclosures, chassis, brackets, and structural frames that can withstand high stress, vibration, and harsh environments.

Manufacturing & DFMA Collaboration

• DFMA Optimization: Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to minimize weld joints, optimize material yield, and reduce production costs.
• Tooling & Fixtures: Collaborate with the manufacturing team to design fabrication fixtures, welding jigs, and forming tools.
• Supplier Coordination: Work closely with plasma/laser cutting, bending, and welding vendors to resolve technical manufacturing limitations.

Testing & Documentation

• FEA Simulation: Perform basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to verify structural integrity, load-bearing capacities, and weld joint strength.
• Engineering Drawings: Generate detailed 2D production drawings with precise Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) according to industry standards (ASME Y14.5 / ISO).
• BOM Management: Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), Engineering Change Notices (ECN), and technical documentation.

Required Core Competencies

• Sheet Metal Expertise: Deep understanding of heavy-gauge sheet metal behavior, high-tonnage press brake limitations, minimum bend radii, and springback characteristics.
• Welding Knowledge: Strong familiarity with heavy welding symbols, joint configurations (groove, fillet), and welding processes (MIG, TIG, SAW).
• CAD/CAE Tools: Proficiency in mainstream 3D CAD software (SolidWorks Sheet Metal module, Creo, or NX) and FEA software (Ansys or SolidWorks Simulation).
• Education & Experience
• Degree: Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a highly related technical field.
• Experience: 3 to 5+ years of dedicated experience in heavy sheet metal fabrication design (e.g., heavy machinery, agricultural equipment, HVAC, defense, or mining structures).

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
