Design Engineer

The Design Engineer will be responsible for preparing engineering designs, technical drawings, 3D models, fabrication drawings and engineering documentation for SHM Group's marine, shipbuilding, fire safety and manufacturing operations. The role involves translating technical specifications and customer requirements into practical, cost-effective and manufacturable designs while ensuring quality, safety, regulatory compliance and timely project execution.

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Production Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
• Candidates with specialisation in CAD design, structural design, product development or manufacturing engineering will be preferred.
• Additional training or certification in relevant design software will be an advantage.

Technical Skills Required

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant 2D drafting tools.
• Working knowledge of 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA or equivalent, depending on the business vertical.
• Understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, material specifications and fabrication processes.
• Knowledge of BOM preparation, assembly drawings and engineering revision control.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications, customer drawings and engineering standards.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes, welding, sheet metal, machining or structural fabrication, as applicable.
• Basic knowledge of quality management systems and engineering documentation.
• Working knowledge of MS Office; familiarity with Odoo ERP or other engineering document-management systems is an advantage.
