Senior Magnet Design Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Magnet Design Engineer to lead the design, development, fabrication and testing of High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets. You will lead the model coil programme, develop technology strategies, oversee engineering analyses and testing, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance superconducting magnet technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead HTS magnet model coil design, development and testing.
• Develop strategic technology plans and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Oversee multiphysics analyses, fabrication, assembly and testing.
• Collaborate on high-current HTS cables, quench protection and magnet integration.
• Prepare technical specifications for tender and procurement.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Deliver complex engineering projects on time, within budget and to quality requirements.
• Communicate technical findings and collaborate with international partners.

Essential Requirements

• BEng/BSc in an engineering discipline.
• Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Strong experience in HTS magnet design and manufacture.
• In-depth understanding of cryogenics.
• Experience with magnet engineering analysis tools.
• Proven multidisciplinary team leadership and complex project delivery.
• Experience preparing tender specifications.
• Recognised expertise in HTS magnet development.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to safety, health, environmental and quality standards.

Desirable

• Experience in tokamak magnet design.
• Knowledge of modern project management tools and methodologies.
